Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er cru "En Vigneraie" 2022 from Domaine Leflaive

Tasting

Appearance
The wine reveals a pale yellow hue with golden highlights, both bright and clear.

Nose
The nose opens with an expressive bouquet of ripe yellow fruits such as peach, apricot and yellow plum. It is enhanced by pastry notes and a fine saline minerality.

Palate
Ample and supple, the palate offers a beautiful balance carried by a firm acidic backbone. It reveals fruity and slightly spicy flavours, extending towards a long, vibrant and mineral finish.

Food and wine pairing

This white wine pairs wonderfully with fine poultry in sauce, firm-fleshed fish such as turbot or sea bass, seared scallops, or a cooked pressed cheese such as a medium-aged Comté.

Serving and cellaring

For optimal tasting, this wine is best served between 11 and 13°C. Light aeration in a decanter can be beneficial in its youth. This Pouilly-Fuissé 1er cru "En Vigneraie" 2022 can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve favourably until around 2030.

The pure and mineral expression of a great white wine from Pouilly-Fuissé

The estate

The history of the Leflaive family in Burgundy began in 1717 in Puligny-Montrachet, but the creation of the modern Domaine Leflaive took place between 1910 and 1930 under the leadership of Joseph Leflaive. A pioneer, the estate has practised biodynamics for more than twenty-five years to reveal the authenticity of its terroirs. Today led by Brice de la Morandière, the estate spans approximately 25 hectares in the Côte de Beaune and 40 hectares in the Mâconnais. It is renowned worldwide for the excellence and purity of its great white wines.

The vineyard

The cuvée comes from the "En Vigneraie" climat, a micro-parcel of 0.234 hectare classified as Premier Cru within the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation. Located at the foot of the Roche de Solutré, this early-ripening terroir enjoys a full southern exposure and a gentle slope. The vines thrive on a very shallow clay-limestone soil, cultivated biodynamically with entirely manual harvesting.

The vintage

The 2022 vintage proved to be an excellent surprise for the region. The warm summer conditions allowed the grapes to reach perfect phenolic ripeness. Thanks to cooler nights and carefully chosen harvest dates, the berries retained a beautiful acidity, offering an ideal balance between generosity and tension.

Vinification and ageing

After a long and gentle pneumatic pressing, the juices settle for twenty-four hours. The alcoholic fermentation of the Pouilly-Fuissé 1er cru "En Vigneraie" 2022 takes place entirely in oak barrels. Ageing continues for twelve months in barrels, with approximately 15% new wood, and is completed with six months in stainless steel tanks. The wine then undergoes a homeopathic fining and a very light filtration before bottling.

Grape variety

100% Chardonnay.
