Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 by Frédéric Esmonin

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a brilliant ruby red hue, enhanced by multiple luminous glints.

Nose
The nose opens with intense aromas of black fruits and fresh red fruits such as raspberry and redcurrant, lifted by delicate floral notes reminiscent of rose and jasmine. With aeration, a pronounced minerality marked by notes of graphite and wet stone reveals itself with elegance.

Palate
On the palate, this wine combines freshness and depth thanks to an elegant structure. The silky, refined tannins are perfectly balanced by a lovely acidity, leading to a finish that is both powerful and harmonious.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with refined dishes such as poultry in a mushroom sauce, roast pigeon with herbs, veal with a light jus, or a truffle risotto.

Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve this Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C, after a short aeration of fifteen to thirty minutes. This wine can continue to age in the cellar and will develop beautifully, drinking well until around 2048.

Other characteristics

This vintage has an alcohol content of 14%.

The mineral elegance of a Burgundy Grand Cru by Frédéric Esmonin

The estate

Located in the heart of Gevrey-Chambertin in Burgundy, the estate was founded in 1988 when Frédéric Esmonin began marketing his own cuvées. Today, the estate is run by Frédéric Esmonin and Dominique Esmonin, while André, Frédéric's father, continues to oversee the vineyard work. The estate stands out for its environmentally friendly approach, favouring integrated pest management, avoiding herbicides, and using organic compost. This philosophy makes it possible to produce wines of great precision, internationally recognised for their faithful expression of terroir.

The vineyard

Ruchottes-Chambertin is a terroir located at the northern edge of Gevrey-Chambertin, at an altitude ranging between 240 and 280 metres. Facing north-east and bordered by woodland, the vines benefit from a cool microclimate. The soils, very shallow and dotted with limestone rocks, rest on marl rich in marine fossils. These unique geological and climatic conditions demand meticulous work and give the grapes remarkable minerality and freshness.

The vintage

The year 2023 offered particularly favourable weather conditions. This favourable climate allowed the berries to reach optimal ripeness while preserving a lovely freshness, resulting in a perfectly balanced harvest.

Winemaking and aging

After a rigorous hand harvest, the grapes destined for the Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2023 are entirely destemmed. A cold maceration of four to five days is then carried out to gently extract colour and aromas. Aging takes place over a period of fourteen to sixteen months in oak barrels, around 66% of which are new, adding complexity without masking the natural expression of the fruit.
