Characteristics and Tasting Tips for Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" 2024 by Gérard Bertrand
Tasting
Colour
The wine reveals a pale yellow colour with golden highlights, bright and luminous.
Nose
The nose opens with aromas of citrus and white-fleshed fruit, pear and quince, enhanced by notes of garrigue and aniseed, before revealing delicate touches of toasted hazelnut.
Palate
On the palate, the wine charms with its great finesse and pronounced minerality, carried by saline and briny notes, underscored by touches of white pepper and flint, leading to a fresh finish evoking acacia honey.
Food and Wine Pairing
This white wine pairs elegantly with scallops, fish in sauce and creamy risottos. It also works beautifully with roast poultry, grilled vegetables or Mediterranean tapas.
Serving and Cellaring
Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" 2024 is best enjoyed at around 11°C, served in a glass wide enough to allow its aromas to express themselves fully.
A La Clape Wine Combining Limestone Minerality and Mediterranean Freshness
The Estate
Château l'Hospitalet is a Languedoc estate located on the La Clape massif, near Narbonne, acquired by Gérard Bertrand in 2002. A committed Languedoc winemaker since the 1970s, Gérard Bertrand now runs this estate, which has become the headquarters of his group and has been farmed organically and biodynamically, with Demeter certification, since the 2017 vintage. The site also houses a wine resort, a spa and a jazz festival, embodying the Mediterranean art of living so dear to its owner.
The Vineyard
The Grand Vin Blanc vineyard is located on the La Clape massif, a former Mediterranean island now joined to the mainland, where it overlooks the Mediterranean Sea at an altitude of more than 130 metres. The predominantly limestone soils are divided between fossil-rich clay-limestone and red Mediterranean soils, while sea breezes and altitude temper the summer heat. The vines are farmed organically and biodynamically, with Demeter certification since the 2017 vintage.
Winemaking and Ageing
Château L'Hospitalet "Grand Vin" 2024 is crafted from a rigorous selection of the estate's finest white parcels. This parcel-by-parcel approach, carried out in accordance with biodynamic principles, aims to reveal the full expression of the La Clape terroir in the final blend of this Languedoc wine.
Grape Varieties
This white wine is made from a blend of Bourboulenc, Grenache Blanc and Rolle (Vermentino), emblematic grape varieties of the La Clape terroir, chosen for their complementarity of freshness, roundness and aromatic elegance.
