A Pouilly-Fuissé True to the Diversity of the Mâconnais Terroirs
The estate
Founded in 1840 by Jean-Antoine Ferret in Fuissé, Domaine J.-A. Ferret now farms 17 to 18 hectares of vines in the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation, in the heart of Burgundy’s Mâconnais. Acquired by Maison Louis Jadot in 2008 and managed by Clément Robinet since 2023, the estate stands out for its pioneering heritage. In the 1950s, Jeanne Ferret was the first to bottle and market her wines directly, establishing parcel-by-parcel vinification. This artisanal approach allows the diversity of Chardonnay terroirs in Burgundy to be expressed with great finesse.
The vineyard
This Pouilly-Fuissé comes from a blend of small parcels located around the amphitheater of Fuissé. The vines, averaging 40 years of age, rest on a mosaic of terroirs: around one-third west-facing on granitic soils, schist, and rhyolitic tuffs, and two-thirds east-facing on Jurassic limestone, marls, and residual clays. This geo-pedological diversity gives the wine all its complexity.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage proved warmer than normal. After a dry winter and a light frost in April, May and June were particularly hot. A hailstorm hit Vergisson in late June, followed by a warm, dry July and August. Harvest began on August 22 and took place over ten days, producing grapes of precise ripeness, charming and well-balanced.
Vinification and aging
Parcels from the granitic soils of the Pouilly-Fuissé Village 2022 fermented in tanks, while those from marls and limestone fermented in barrels. Aging lasted about 18 months: 10 months in barrels or tanks, then 8 months in tanks to refine the structure. Bottling took place in February 2024.
