Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges "Village" 2022 Joseph Drouhin
Tasting
Colour
Deep, it reveals an intense red hue with mauve tints.
Nose
Powerful and elegant, it reveals aromas of cherry and blackberry, mingled with floral notes of peony and violet. On aeration, subtle touches of cedarwood emerge, hinting at an evolution toward gamey nuances.
Palate
The balance is remarkable, combining a firm structure with great suppleness. This vigorous wine offers a lovely tangy tension, stretching into a long finish marked by flavours of candied fruit and gentle spices.
Food and Wine Pairing
Ideal with characterful meats, this red wine pairs perfectly with feathered game, roast rack of lamb or duck breast. It also works beautifully with fish prepared in a red wine sauce, as well as with soft Burgundian cheeses such as Époisses or Langres.
Service and Storage
For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to serve this Nuits-Saint-Georges "Village" 2022 at a temperature between 15 and 16°C. While it already offers a lovely aromatic profile, it will reach its peak between 8 and 13 years of age, and can be kept in the cellar until around 2037, away from light and temperature fluctuations.
Other Characteristics
The alcohol level of this vintage stands between 12.5 and 13.5%, a moderate level that preserves all the wine's freshness.
The Expression of a Nuits-Saint-Georges Terroir by Maison Joseph Drouhin
The Estate
Founded in 1880 in Beaune by Joseph Drouhin, Maison Joseph Drouhin is a historic figure of Burgundy. Now led by the fourth generation, with Frédéric Drouhin at the helm of the executive board, the estate spans around a hundred hectares. A pioneer of environmentally responsible viticulture, the domaine has been fully certified organic since 1990 and biodynamic since 1996, making it the largest biodynamic producer in the region.
The Vineyard
Located in the Côte de Nuits, the Nuits-Saint-Georges vineyard benefits from an east and southeast exposure. The vines flourish across a mosaic of soils, ranging from stony alluvial deposits in the north to deeper marl-limestone soils in the south. The vineyard management stands out for its high planting density, reaching around 12,500 vines per hectare, which forces the roots to dig deep into the bedrock.
The Vintage
The year 2022 was marked by particularly warm temperatures and strong sunshine. Timely rainfall at the end of June helped slow down ripening and preserve the grapes' natural acidity. August, marked by heat peaks and a few refreshing showers, was followed by two dry and windy weeks, offering ideal conditions just before harvest.
Winemaking and Aging
The grapes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges "Village" 2022 are hand-harvested into small perforated crates. Vinification includes whole-bunch fermentation with indigenous yeasts, followed by a gentle maceration of thirteen to twenty-four days punctuated by delicate punching down and pumping over. The wine is then aged on the lees for fourteen to sixteen months in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new.
