The estate
In the heart of the Pessac-Léognan appellation, Château Smith Haut Lafitte is one of the oldest wine estates in Bordeaux, with origins dating back to 1365. The acquisition of the property by Daniel and Florence Cathiard in 1990 marked a decisive turning point in its history. Driven by an ambitious vision and a deep passion, the Cathiards elevated the estate to the top of the Graves. Today, Smith Haut Lafitte shines internationally thanks to red and white wines renowned for their refinement and unique signature.
The vineyard
Petit Smith Haut Lafitte is the estate's second wine, produced from specific plots of the Pessac-Léognan vineyard, farmed organically and biodynamically. The vines, with an average age of 12 years, are planted on Günzian gravel soil, typical of the appellation, bringing minerality and freshness to the wine. Massal selection using rootstocks from the estate's mother vine ensures the preservation of the genetic heritage and the authentic expression of the terroir.
Vinification and ageing
The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates and then subjected to inert pressing that preserves their aromatic freshness. Fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, 40% of which are new. Ageing continues for 12 months on lees with regular bâtonnage, in barrels (40% of which are new). These barrels are made in the estate's integrated cooperage, ensuring perfect control of the ageing process.
Blend
80% Sauvignon Blanc and 20% Sémillon.
