Tasting notes and recommendations for Autour du Cinsault 2024 from Les Vignes Oubliées
Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a garnet red hue, marked by beautiful clarity and brilliant shine.
Nose
Alluring, the nose opens with aromas of Morello cherry and crushed raspberry. It then evolves toward notes of gingerbread, pepper, and licorice, complemented by subtle hints of blackcurrant, thyme, and garrigue.
Palate
Generous and refined, the fruity attack with violet nuances leads into a palate with silky tannins. The whole reveals a sun-drenched character perfectly balanced by great freshness, extending into a long, persistent finish with fruity, spicy, and mineral notes.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs perfectly with a tajine, moussaka, or grilled lamb chops. It will also complement grilled vegetables, roasted poultry, or braised meats in sauce beautifully.
Serving and cellaring
Enjoyable now, the Autour du Cinsault 2024 cuvée can be tasted through around 2029. Stored under optimal conditions, it can be cellared until approximately 2032–2034.
The authentic expression of a high-altitude terroir in Languedoc
The estate
Officially founded in 2009 following the collaboration between Olivier Jullien and Jean-Baptiste Granier, the estate Les Vignes Oubliées is located in the Languedoc. Today, Jean-Baptiste Granier heads this property, which spans around 15 hectares. The project is based on preserving old heritage vines threatened with abandonment, cultivated in partnership with local farmers. Committed to organic practices, the estate stands out for its dedication to showcasing the terroir through sustainable agriculture and minimal-intervention winemaking.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Saint-Privat, on the edge of the Larzac plateau, the vineyard reaches altitudes of between 300 and 400 meters. The vines, averaging 45 years of age, thrive on a mosaic of soils composed of schist, sandstone, and clay-limestone. Farmed organically, this terroir—part of the great tradition of the Coteaux du Languedoc—benefits from manual harvesting and meticulous short pruning to ensure the highest quality grapes.
Winemaking and aging
After rigorous sorting, the grapes destined for the Autour du Cinsault cuvée undergo partial destemming. Fermentation takes place at controlled temperatures for fifteen to twenty days. The wine is then aged 80% in neutral vessels and 20% in demi-muids and small French oak barrels for twelve months. This process takes place within an old natural cave, offering ideal temperature and humidity conditions.
Grape varieties
Cinsault, Grenache, Syrah, and Carignan.
