Louis Latour : Aloxe-Corton 1er cru "Les Chaillots" 2018

Revisited from bottle, the 2018 Aloxe-Corton 1er Cru Les Chaillots has turned out nicely, mingling aromas of sweet berry fruit with hints of spice and loamy soil. Medium to full-bodied, succulent and youthfully chewy, I described it from barrel as hearty and structured, and this reencounter confirmed that impression.

Aromas of ripe strawberries, dried mushrooms and bark follow through to a medium to full body with round, polished tannins that provide a compact, creamy texture. Flavorful finish with smoke, chocolate and spice. Surprisingly drinkable now. Drink or hold.

Cherry, earth and oak spice notes mingle in this chunky red. The tannins have the upper hand for now, with a hint of vegetal accents peeking through on the finish. Best from 2023 through 2032. 1,020 cases made, 200 cases imported.

The nose on this wine is layered with hints of fresh red cherry, candied Amarena and cherry compote, all with beautifully pure aromas. The palate enhances this with waves of fresh juiciness and a firm web of fine tannins. This is taut, vivid and fresh.
