The elegance of a great Burgundy Pinot Noir crafted by Louis Latour
The estate
Officially founded in 1797, the Louis Latour House is a true institution in Burgundy. Still independent, it is today led by the eleventh generation of the family, with Eléonore Latour working to enhance the brand's reputation. The estate spans 48 hectares, including an exceptional 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru, making it the largest owner of this rank in the region. Historically based in Aloxe-Corton, the property stands out for its deep commitment to sustainable viticulture and respect for its prestigious terroirs.
The vineyard
The "Les Charmes" Climat is recognised as one of the most renowned of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation. The vines, with an average age of 35 years, thrive on a particularly stony clay-limestone terroir, ensuring excellent drainage. This poor soil compels the plant to draw its resources from deep down, thus yielding grapes of great delicacy. Yields are kept under control at 35 hl/ha and the harvest is carried out by hand in order to preserve the integrity of the berries.
The vintage
The 2014 year offered particularly favourable weather conditions for the vines. Despite a few hail episodes in other areas, the summer rains of July and August allowed the development of berries with thick skins, while avoiding the onset of rot. This ideal growing cycle gave rise to concentrated grapes, offering remarkable balance and a superb texture.
Vinification and ageing
After a meticulous harvest, the fermentation of this Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Charmes" 2014 is carried out traditionally in open vats, followed by malolactic fermentation completed at 100%. The wine then benefits from 10 to 12 months of ageing in French oak barrels, of which 40% are new. These barrels, made in the House's own cooperage and receiving a medium toast, bring a complex structure without masking the subtlety of the fruit.
Grape variety
This cuvée is crafted from 100% Pinot Noir.
