Tasting notes and characteristics of Louis Latour Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru 2009
Tasting
Appearance
This wine reveals a magnificent, bright ruby hue, which may take on subtle amber reflections as it evolves.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens on indulgent notes of blackberry and black cherry, harmoniously complemented by hints of mocha and nutmeg, along with delicate floral nuances.
Palate
Beautifully ample, the palate offers a velvety and opulent texture. The particularly supple tannins support aromas of black fruits and damp earth, revealing a rich structure and perfect balance.
Food pairings
This cuvée pairs wonderfully with game dishes, such as a venison stew or pan-seared doe with pepper, served with celery purée. It will also enhance aged cheeses, such as Soumaintrain, or other hard or soft cheeses.
Serving and ageing
To fully appreciate this Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru 2009, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 16 and 17 °C. With excellent ageing potential, it can be kept and enjoyed until around 2024.
A rich and velvety Burgundy Grand Cru by Louis Latour
The estate
Officially founded in 1797, the Louis Latour House is a true institution in Burgundy. This family estate, now led by Eléonore Latour, the twelfth-generation representative, oversees an exceptional 48-hectare vineyard, 27 hectares of which are classified as Grand Cru. Uniquely in the region, this world-renowned brand owns its own cooperage, allowing it to perfectly master the ageing of its wines. Deeply attached to its terroir, the estate also stands out for its strong commitment to sustainable viticulture, respectful of ecosystems and biodiversity.
The vineyard
Located in the prestigious Côte de Nuits, in the commune of Gevrey-Chambertin, the Charmes-Chambertin terroir benefits from exceptional geological conditions. The vines, averaging around forty years old, thrive on a complex subsoil composed of chalk, clay and gravel. The estate practises environmentally friendly farming there, excluding chemical products in favour of natural methods, such as biological pest control and ploughing with horses to preserve the soils. Yields are deliberately limited to 30 hl/ha to ensure optimal concentration in the berries.
The vintage
The 2009 vintage was particularly mild, offering ideal weather conditions throughout the vine's growing cycle. This highly favourable climate allowed the grapes to reach perfect maturity, resulting in a harvest carried out under the best auspices in early September.
Vinification and ageing
The berries destined for the Charmes-Chambertin Grand cru 2009 are hand-harvested and undergo rigorous sorting. Fermentation takes place in the traditional way in open wooden vats, encouraging optimal extraction of colours and aromas. After a 100% malolactic fermentation, the wine is aged for 10 to 12 months. This ageing takes place exclusively in new French oak barrels with a medium toast, custom-made by the Louis Latour House's own cooperage.
