Description

Tasting Notes and Characteristics of the Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2010 by Louis Latour

Tasting

Appearance
A beautiful ruby colour reflecting the youthfulness and liveliness of the wine upon release.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet unveils dominant notes of cherry, harmoniously complemented by hints of clove and vanilla derived from barrel ageing.

Palate
The attack reveals an elegant wine with excellent structure. The tannins are smooth and balance perfectly with a subtle oakiness, offering a rich, supple and velvety texture.

Food and wine pairings

This Grand Cru pairs wonderfully with game meats, such as a venison stew, peppered sautéed doe served with a celeriac purée, or wild boar. It also enhances rich poultry such as duck or goose, and matches perfectly with a characterful cheese like Soumaintrain.

Serving and ageing

This Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2010 reveals all its aromas when served at a temperature between 16 and 17 °C. With excellent ageing potential, it can be enjoyed until around 2025.

Other characteristics

This wine is bottled without any fining or filtration, thereby preserving all its aromatic and textural complexity.

A rich and velvety Burgundy Grand Cru by Louis Latour

The estate

The Latour family acquired its first vines in 1731 before establishing its base in Aloxe-Corton in 1768, at the heart of Burgundy. Today, following the passing of Louis-Fabrice Latour in 2022, the remaining family members lead this independent estate. This prestigious house stands out with its 48-hectare vineyard, including 27 hectares classified as Grand Cru, making it the largest in the region. The house also has its own cooperage, a rare asset that ensures complete mastery over the ageing of its wines.

The vineyard

The plots of the Charmes-Chambertin appellation are located in the Côte de Nuits region, in the village of Gevrey-Chambertin. The vines, with an average age of 40 years, thrive at an altitude ranging from 886 to 919 feet. They draw their complexity from a subsoil composed of clay, chalk and gravel. The average yield is kept to 30 hl/ha, and the harvest is carried out by hand to ensure the finest grape quality.

The vintage

The year 2010 offered excellent weather conditions with a warm growing season. These highly favourable climatic conditions at harvest time allowed for concentrated fruit development and optimal phenolic maturity.

Winemaking and ageing

The fermentation of this Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru 2010 is carried out traditionally in open vats, followed by malolactic fermentation completed at 100%. The wine then benefits from 10 to 12 months of ageing in medium-toast French oak barrels. These barrels, 100% new, come exclusively from the Louis Latour cooperage.

Grape variety

This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
