Decanter

Aromas of candied plums accented with a suggestion of wild herbs and a savoury note give the nose of Latour's Clos du Roi a pleasant complexity, yet there is also good purity of fruit here. The wine is fermented on native yeasts in open-top fermenters and aged 18 months in cask, half of them new. The texture on the palate is supple and approachable now.

The 2016 Corton Le Clos du Roi Grand Cru has a sedate but well-defined bouquet of pretty red cherry and crushed strawberry scents, with rose petals emerging over time in the glass. The palate is well balanced with supple tannins and fine acidity, good substance, yet it begins to run out of ideas in the second half, finishing in a rather monotone fashion and lacking personality, even though it does improve and gain substance with aeration. Tasted blind at the 2016 Burgfest tasting.
