Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Montagny 2024 by Louis Latour

Tasting

Colour
The glass reveals a beautiful pale yellow colour, remarkably brilliant.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with a lovely minerality, intertwined with honeysuckle and fresh hazelnut aromas. Delicate notes of white flowers and citrus, reminiscent of grapefruit and cut lemon, complete this olfactory ensemble.

Palate
Despite the challenges of the vintage, the palate proves ample and generous. It unfolds with delicious notes of white peach and almond paste. The finish, beautifully persistent, is carried by great mineral freshness and closes with subtle spicy and honeyed touches.

Food and wine pairing
This white wine will pair wonderfully with spring vegetables such as asparagus, delicate white meat or poultry dishes, river fish accompanied by dried fruits, as well as pressed-curd cheeses such as sheep's milk cheese.

Service and storage
To fully appreciate this 2024 vintage, it is recommended to serve it chilled, at an ideal temperature between 12 and 14°C. With fine ageing potential, it can be cellared and enjoyed until around 2027.

The mineral and luminous expression of a great Montagny Chardonnay

The estate
Founded in 1797, Maison Louis Latour is a true institution in Burgundy. Based in Aloxe-Corton, this historic family estate oversees an exceptional 48-hectare vineyard, a large portion of which is classified as Grand Cru. Now led by Florent Latour, the company continues its ancestral expertise while embracing certified sustainable practices. Unique in its field, this renowned Burgundian house even has its own cooperage. It embodies excellence and independence, shining around the world through wines that fully express the richness of their terroirs.

The vineyard
The grapes come from the "La Grande Roche" plot, located within the Montagny appellation. This privileged terroir sits near the top of the hill, benefiting from superb sun exposure that promotes optimal aromatic concentration in the berries. The vines, averaging 35 years old, thrive on a subsoil rich in clay, limestone and chalk. Harvesting is done by hand, with an average controlled yield of around 40 hl/ha.

The vintage
2024 proved to be a particularly challenging year for viticulture. The growing cycle was marked by relentless spring rains, heavy mildew pressure, localised hail events and highly uneven flowering, leading to a significant drop in yields. Fortunately, the return of much more favourable weather from mid-September onward allowed the harvest to proceed smoothly, providing ideal conditions to pick berries with lovely concentration.

Winemaking and ageing
The making of this wine favours purity of fruit and expression of terroir. Fermentation takes place traditionally in stainless steel tanks with rigorous temperature control, including a full malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged for 8 to 10 months, exclusively in stainless steel tanks, to preserve all its freshness.

Grape variety
This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay.
