Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Riesling "Réserve" 2019 from Maison Trimbach
Tasting
Colour
This wine displays a pale yellow hue with slightly greenish nuances, typical of young dry Rieslings.
Nose
The nose unveils aromas of white-fleshed fruit, apple and pear, combined with notes of citrus and white flowers, against a mineral backdrop evoking stone and limestone.
Palate
The attack is lively, carried by a fine, well-integrated acidity. The palate, full of fruit, is structured around a pronounced mineral framework, before finishing on a long, juicy and refreshing finish.
Food and Wine Pairings
This wine is ideally paired with a generous choucroute, as well as fish in all its forms (grilled, smoked, in sauce or raw). It also pairs very well with white meats, whose delicacy it enhances without ever overpowering them.
Serving and Cellaring
With an ageing potential of 10 to 15 years, the Riesling "Réserve" 2019 can be kept until 2034 at the very least. In its youth it offers a lively, fruity expression, while a few additional years in the cellar will allow it to develop more tertiary notes without losing its characteristic freshness.
A Dry, Mineral Riesling, True to the Limestone Terroir of Ribeauvillé in Alsace
The Estate
Founded in 1626 in Riquewihr before settling permanently in Ribeauvillé, in Alsace, at the beginning of the 20th century, Maison Trimbach now belongs to the Trimbach family, who have led it for thirteen generations, notably around Jean Trimbach, Pierre Trimbach and their children. The house has established itself as a benchmark for the dry wines of Alsace, particularly for Riesling, thanks to a consistent style and a demand for purity passed down from generation to generation.
The Vineyard
The grapes for this cuvée come from a rigorous selection of plots located around Ribeauvillé and Hunawihr, in Alsace, on the Ribeauvillé geological fault line. The vines, with an average age of 45 years, grow on limestone and marl-limestone soils, including Muschelkalk, and benefit from south, south-east and south-west exposures that favour even ripening. Farmed organically, they are part of a biodiversity approach that includes tree planting, the installation of nesting boxes and winter grazing by sheep.
The Vintage
The 2019 vintage unfolded within the semi-continental climate characteristic of Alsace, with a cold winter followed by a hot, dry summer, occasionally punctuated by storms, and then a particularly favourable dry autumn. This combination allowed for a slow, healthy ripening of the grapes, preserving a lively acidity while ensuring full maturity, essential conditions for the balance sought in this Riesling.
Vinification and Ageing
The grapes destined for the Riesling "Réserve" 2019 are gently pressed as soon as they arrive at the estate, in order to preserve the purity of the juice. Fermentation takes place in neutral vessels, with no aim of imparting oak influence, and without malolactic fermentation, which preserves the acidic tension characteristic of the house style. Ageing continues on fine lees, with a view to precision and freshness.
Grape Variety
100% Riesling.
