James Suckling

A striking wine with such flinty and focused lime and lemon character and a dry, elegant and powerful palate. Drink or hold.

Bright and clear, the wine reveals a pale yellow hue with silvery highlights.

The aromatic bouquet delicately expresses notes of citrus, white flowers, and a mineral touch characteristic of its terroir.

The elegance and minerality of a great white wine from Alsace

The estate

Founded in 1780 by Nicolas Pfister, the Domaine Mélanie Pfister has upheld a family winemaking tradition for over two centuries in the village of Dahlenheim, north of Alsace. After studying agricultural engineering and oenology, Mélanie Pfister has been the eighth generation at the head of the estate since 2006. Following prestigious internships at Zind-Humbrecht, Méo-Camuzet, Cheval Blanc, d'Yquem, and Craggy Range, she converted the entire ten-hectare vineyard to organic farming, with certification obtained in 2021. Since 2019, she has also incorporated biodynamic preparations tailored to each plot. The estate stands out for its new winery, which allows the forty-three plots to be vinified separately, thus expressing the diversity of Alsatian terroirs.

The vineyard

The Riesling Grand cru "Engelberg" 2023 comes from a two-hectare plot located on the slopes of Mont Scharrach, between 250 and 300 meters above sea level. This south-facing vineyard benefits from an exceptional terroir composed of Muschelkalk limestone dating from the Middle Triassic. The soils are characterized by a very thin marly top layer resting directly on a bedrock of hard limestone into which the roots penetrate deeply. The continental and dry climate of this northern area of Alsace, combined with these limestone soils, creates particularly favorable conditions for producing elegant and mineral rieslings.
