Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" 2023 Méo-Camuzet

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep red hue with intense, velvety highlights.

Nose
The nose expresses a beautiful maturity through aromas of red and black fruits (black cherry, blackcurrant, kirsch) mingled with delicate floral notes of violet and dried rose. The whole is completed by complex secondary nuances evoking undergrowth, leather, pepper and liquorice.

Palate
The attack is juicy and seductive, opening onto a palate with a voluptuous texture and impressive concentration. The tannins are pronounced yet particularly elegant and caressing. A lovely acidity comes to balance the whole, bringing freshness and drawing the wine out towards a remarkably long finish.

Food and Wine Pairing

This wine pairs wonderfully with noble and festive dishes such as venison à la royale, pheasant, or rich red meats served with mushroom sauces or wine reductions. It also beautifully complements characterful washed-rind or blue cheeses.

Service and Storage

To fully appreciate this Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" 2023, it is recommended to serve it at 16°C in large crystal glasses, opening the bottle 15 to 30 minutes before tasting. While already appealing, it will reveal its full complexity around 2028-2030 and can be cellared until approximately 2043.

The Elegance and Complexity of a Grand Cru from Burgundy by Domaine Méo-Camuzet

The Estate

Founded at the beginning of the twentieth century by the visionary Étienne Camuzet, Domaine Méo-Camuzet has historically been based in Vosne-Romanée, at the heart of the prestigious Burgundy region in France. Today, the estate spans around 21 hectares of vines and is run by Jean-Nicolas Méo, the current owner who took over in 1989. Drawing on organic and biodynamic principles, the estate is dedicated to producing wines of great elegance, perfectly combining structure, finesse and the authentic expression of each terroir.

The Vineyard

The Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" comes from a small historic plot of 45 ares facing due east. Surrounded by dry stone walls, the very old vines planted in the 1920s thrive on light soils composed of limestone and marl. This geological structure forces the roots to dig deep, naturally limiting yields while fostering exceptional concentration and remarkable mineral precision.

The Vintage

The year 2023 began with a mild winter and a rainy start to spring, followed by ideal warmth during flowering. Water reserves in July created ideal conditions for fruit development. Faced with generous growth, the estate carried out intensive green harvesting over three weeks to regulate yields. The harvest then took place under mild conditions in early September.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes for the Corton Grand Cru "Clos Rognet" 2023 are harvested exclusively by hand into small perforated crates to preserve the integrity of the berries. At the winery, the philosophy is one of minimal intervention, favouring full destemming and rigorous temperature control during fermentation. Aging proceeded very harmoniously, with progressive malolactic fermentations ensuring remarkable stability in the wine.
