Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots" Domaine 2023 by Méo-Camuzet
Tasting
Colour
The colour reveals a beautiful red hue.
Nose
Displaying great elegance, the aromatic bouquet opens with notes of red fruit, evoking crushed strawberry and raspberry, underscored by a touch of fennel and a lovely minerality. Riper aromas of cherry and fresh fig mingle with the liveliness of blood orange, all wrapped in subtle smoky and vanilla nuances. Delicate hints of leather and truffle are just beginning to emerge.
Palate
Defying the austerity often associated with its appellation, the palate offers a fleshy, rounded texture. The silky, satiny tannins support a structure that is both solid and generous. Perfectly balanced acidity brings remarkable harmony, leading to a persistent finish with mineral and truffle accents.
Food and Wine Pairing
This red wine will pair wonderfully with a beef fillet, veal rump with roasted salsify, or squab with cherries. It will also beautifully complement game such as duck or venison, as well as dishes rich in mushrooms.
Service and Storage
For an optimal tasting experience, it is recommended to serve this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots" Domaine 2023 at a temperature of 17°C, ideally in large Burgundy-style glasses. While it has good aging potential, this wine proves particularly harmonious and generous in its youth, and can be enjoyed from its early years of evolution.
The Elegance and Roundness of a Nuits-Saint-Georges Wine
The Estate
The family's winemaking history dates back to the 17th century, but it was in 1959 that the modern estate took on its current identity under the name Méo-Camuzet, upon its transfer to Jean Méo. Located in Vosne-Romanée in France, in the heart of Burgundy, the estate spans approximately 17 hectares of vines. Since 1984, Jean-Nicolas Méo has led the estate, supported by his sisters. Renowned worldwide for its respectful approach to terroir, the producer crafts wines that combine structure, finesse, and charm.
The Vineyard
The "Aux Boudots" plot enjoys a privileged geographical position, being the northernmost classified cru of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, directly bordering Vosne-Romanée. Facing east on a hillside with typical clay-limestone soils, the vines cover approximately one hectare. Planted in the early 1950s and mid-1960s, these old vines produce small, highly concentrated berries, offering excellent resistance to humidity.
The Vintage
The year 2023 was marked by significant heat, punctuated by stormy episodes. A notable heatwave occurred during the harvest period, offering particular climatic conditions that resulted in a harvest with remarkable potential.
Winemaking and Aging
True to a minimal-intervention philosophy, the making of this Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru "Aux Boudots" Domaine 2023 begins with hand-harvesting and rigorous sorting. The winemaking includes a measured proportion of 10 to 15% whole clusters, followed by a three- to five-day cold maceration before the onset of natural fermentation, punctuated by punch-downs and pump-overs. Aging takes place in French oak barrels for 15 to 18 months. Bottling is carried out by gravity, without any fining or filtration.
Grape Variety
This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
