Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2022 Méo-Camuzet

Tasting

Colour
This wine reveals a beautiful red colour.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with scents of ripe red fruits, dominated by cherry and Burlat cherry jam. It then gains complexity with spicy touches, well-integrated oak, as well as nuances of black tea, fresh leather, blond tobacco, faded rose, and a hint of eucalyptus.

Palate
The attack is round, introducing a palate with a generous, ample, and coating texture, supported by caressing tannins. The mid-palate offers perfect concentration and lovely fruity vivacity. The finish, remarkably long, proves slightly tight and tangy, revealing citrus notes such as lemon and mandarin.

Food and Wine Pairing

This great red wine pairs wonderfully with refined poultry dishes such as guinea fowl with morels or duck breast with cherries. It also elevates fine meats such as beef tournedos or roast rack of lamb, as well as autumnal mushroom dishes. As for cheese, it ideally accompanies soft, creamy varieties such as Brillat-Savarin or Saint-Nectaire.

Service and Storage

For an optimal tasting of the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2022, it is recommended to serve it between 15 and 18°C in a large Burgundy glass. In its youth, vigorous decanting for one hour will benefit it. This wine, built to age, can be kept in the cellar to be enjoyed until around 2047.

The Power and Elegance of a Great Wine from Vosne-Romanée

The Estate

The winegrowing history of the Méo family in Burgundy began in the seventeenth century, but it was in 1920 that Étienne Camuzet laid the true foundations of Domaine Méo-Camuzet by acquiring legendary plots. Now run by Jean-Nicolas Méo, the estate spans 15 to 18 hectares at the heart of the Côte de Nuits. The domaine stands out for its highly demanding sustainable viticulture and strict yield control, producing wines that combine charm and concentration and rank among the most respected in the region.

The Vineyard

The climat "Aux Brûlées" is located on the upper part of the village of Vosne-Romanée, benefiting from an eastern exposure and the coolness of the neighbouring combe. The vines, mostly planted in the 1930s, are rooted in shallow soils of Prémeaux limestone with chailles (flint fragments). The surface is covered with a layer of pebbles that promotes drainage and warms the soil, offering an ideal terroir for the development of small, highly concentrated grapes.

The Vintage

The year 2022 stood out for its generous sunshine and water deficit. The dry, bright spring encouraged rapid vegetative growth, followed by early, trouble-free flowering at the end of May. June, although sunny, brought welcome rains that put an end to the drought. Harvest began in late August under mild weather conditions, yielding healthy grapes with even ripeness.

Winemaking and Aging

The grapes destined for the Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru "Aux Brûlées" 2022 are hand-harvested in small crates, meticulously sorted, and then fully destemmed. Winemaking favours gentle extraction with rigorous temperature control and late punching down (pigeage). The wine is then aged for an average of 17 months in the finest oak barrels from the Bertranges and Tronçais forests. Bottling is done by gravity, without any fining or filtration.

Grape Variety

This wine is made from 100% Pinot Noir.
