Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Meursault 1er Cru "Les Gouttes d'Or" 2024 by Pierre Girardin
Tasting notes
Appearance
The wine shows a pale gold hue with subtle green highlights in its youth, promising to evolve towards deep golden tones with time.
Nose
The nose opens on a rich and remarkably complex bouquet. It releases delicate fragrances of white flowers such as acacia and linden blossom, harmoniously intertwined with aromas of stone fruit, light honey and pastry notes reminiscent of brioche and almond paste.
Palate
Generous and velvety, the palate captivates with a textural richness perfectly balanced by a very precise, zesty acidity. It unfolds savoury notes of ripe fruit before stretching into a persistent finish, marked by touches of yellow plum and gingerbread.
Food and Wine Pairing
This great white wine will elevate refined dishes such as poultry in sauce, veal rump, or noble fish like turbot and sea bass served with a butter sauce. It also pairs wonderfully with morels or hard cooked-curd cheeses such as Comté.
Serving and Cellaring
For optimal enjoyment of this Meursault 1er Cru "Les Gouttes d'Or" 2024, we recommend serving it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. Endowed with a fine structure, this wine is built to evolve favourably for several years in the cellar.
The Richness and Minerality of a Great Meursault Wine by Pierre Girardin
The Estate
Heir to a family line that has worked the vines since the 17th century, Pierre-Vincent Girardin represents the thirteenth generation of winemakers. Having learned the trade at a very young age, Pierre Girardin officially founded his estate in 2017 in Burgundy. Initially made up of 4.5 hectares of family vineyards, the estate now extends over 13 hectares in Burgundy, complemented by 6.2 hectares in the Jura. The estate stands out for its contemporary approach, favouring organic viticulture and micro-cuvée vinifications to express the purity and minerality of each terroir.
The Vineyard
The Climat "Les Gouttes d'Or" is a historic and emblematic terroir of Meursault, classified as Premier Cru. Located at an altitude ranging from 240 to 260 metres on a gentle slope of around 10%, the vines benefit from an ideal east and south-east exposure. The particularly well-draining soils are composed of limestone, marl and a high proportion of flint, giving the wine its characteristic tension. To address climate challenges, the estate has opted for higher trellising, increasing the leaf surface area, while applying the principles of organic farming.
Vinification and Ageing
The estate's philosophy is based on minimal intervention in order to preserve the identity of the plot. For this Meursault 1er Cru "Les Gouttes d'Or" 2024, vinification is carried out in micro-cuvées. After a gentle pressing, fermentation begins naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts. Ageing then takes place in made-to-measure oak barrels with a capacity of 456 litres, with a moderate proportion of new oak, supporting the wine's structure without masking the brilliance of its fruit.
