Description

Characteristics and Tasting Notes for Nuits-Saint-Georges Village 2023 Remoissenet Père et Fils

Tasting

Colour
The colour reveals a deep crimson red hue, enhanced by subtle purple highlights.

Nose
The nose opens with intense aromas of black fruits such as black cherry, blackcurrant and blueberry. On aeration, it reveals spicy notes, liquorice and dried tobacco, accompanied by a delicate touch of oak.

Palate
The attack is direct, carried by a precise acidity that lends a lovely freshness. The mid-palate offers a silky texture with fine, well-integrated tannins. The remarkably long finish stretches out with flavours of ripe fruit, spice and a chalky minerality.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with grilled or roasted red meats, such as a rib of beef or a herb-roasted free-range chicken. It also goes wonderfully with game dishes, such as duck or roast venison, as well as with mature regional cheeses like Époisses or Ami du Chambertin.

Service and storage

Approachable in its youth, this Nuits-Saint-Georges Village 2023 will reveal its full complexity after a few years in the cellar and can be enjoyed until around 2038.

The authentic expression of a wine from Nuits-Saint-Georges

The estate

Founded in 1877 in the heart of Beaune, the house of Remoissenet Père et Fils is a historic institution of Burgundy. Housed in fourteenth-century buildings with exceptional medieval cellars, it boasts a unique winemaking heritage. Taken over in 2005 by brothers Edward and Howard Milstein, the estate embarked on a major qualitative renewal. Today, the estate cultivates around thirteen hectares of its own vines according to the principles of biodynamics, while also maintaining a haute couture négociant business. This dual identity allows it to offer wines of great authenticity, true to their terroirs.

The vineyard

The grapes come from the northern sector of the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, mainly from the "Aux Lavières" and "Bas de Combe" plots. Located close to Vosne-Romanée, these vines, aged between twenty and forty years, thrive on shallow soils composed of pure limestone and clay-limestone. The estate practises rigorous biodynamic viticulture, with no synthetic products, and carries out hand-harvesting followed by a meticulous double sorting.

The vintage

2023 stands out for its mild weather conditions, which favoured balanced vegetative growth and a particularly generous harvest. A heatwave during the harvest helped accelerate the phenolic ripening of the berries, resulting in grapes with optimal ripeness while maintaining moderate alcohol levels.

Winemaking and aging

The vinification of this Nuits-Saint-Georges Village 2023 begins with fermentation in open wooden vats, triggered exclusively by indigenous yeasts. The estate favours whole-bunch maceration for gentle extraction. The wine is then aged for twelve to fifteen months in 350-litre French oak barrels, with around 30% new wood, before being bottled without fining or filtration.

Grape variety

100% Pinot Noir.
