The brilliance and tension of a singular white wine from IGP Pays du Gard

The estate

Founded in 1999 by Rémy Pedreno, the Roc d'Anglade estate played a major role in the winemaking revival of the historic village of Langlade, in the Languedoc region. Today, the property is still run by its founder, Rémy Pedreno, alongside his wife Martine and winemaker Jeremy Stevenson. Spanning a modest area of 9.5 to 10.5 hectares, the estate stands out for its philosophy centred on intuition, respect for living organisms and minimal intervention. Certified organic, it produces wines recognised for their remarkable expression of terroir.

The vineyard

Classified as IGP Pays du Gard, the vineyard benefits from a complex terroir composed of calcareous marl resting on clay-silt-siliceous soils. To preserve optimal freshness in a Mediterranean climate, the old vines are planted on north-facing terraces. The estate favours organic and regenerative farming practices, notably maintaining natural cover crops between the rows to promote biodiversity and soil health.

Winemaking and aging

The grapes for this Roc d'Anglade 2023 are harvested by hand. Whole clusters are pressed directly without destemming, followed by cold settling for twenty-four hours. Fermentation starts naturally thanks to indigenous yeasts, in large oak casks and demi-muids. Aging first takes place over twelve months on fine lees in these wooden vessels, with regular lees stirring, before continuing for six months in stainless steel tanks. A light, non-sterile filtration is carried out before bottling.

Grape varieties

This wine is made up of Chenin Blanc (70%), Chardonnay (10%), Grenache Blanc (10%), as well as Grenache Gris and Carignan Blanc (5%).
