Characteristics and tasting tips for the Côtes du Rhône "Cuvée Spéciale" 2024 by Tardieu Laurent
Tasting notes
Colour
This wine from the Rhône Valley reveals a beautiful red colour.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of grenadine and sweet spices, complemented by aromas of blackcurrant, liquorice and delicate floral touches.
Palate
Focused more on aromatic intensity than density, the palate offers refreshing acidity and beautifully fine tannins. It elegantly expresses all the complexity of ripe fruit.
Food and wine pairing
This wine pairs wonderfully with roasted, braised or grilled meats such as beef, veal, lamb, pork, duck and poultry. It also goes very well with dishes based on tomatoes, aubergines and sausages, as well as Asian cuisine with aromatic spices.
Service and storage
To fully appreciate this Côtes du Rhône "Cuvée Spéciale" 2024 in its youth, it is recommended to decant it about two hours before serving and to enjoy it at a temperature of 14.5°C. This wine has excellent aging potential and can be cellared until around 2044.
Other characteristics
Bottled without fining or filtration to preserve its full natural richness, this wine may develop a slight deposit over time, a testament to its authenticity.
The elegance and authentic expression of a Rhône Valley cuvée
The estate
Founded in 1996 in the Provençal village of Lourmarin, the Maison Tardieu Laurent has established itself as a key player in the Rhône Valley. This micro-négociant-éleveur stands out for its pursuit of quality and its deep respect for terroirs. Today, Michel Tardieu is the sole owner and manager of the estate, supported by his family, including his son Bastien, an oenologist. Without owning any vines, the house carefully selects its grapes from partner winegrowers, favouring organic and biodynamic farming practices to create wines of great authenticity.
The vineyard
The grapes for this Côtes du Rhône "Cuvée Spéciale" come from plots located on the outskirts of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, in the Courthézon area. The terroir consists of sand and rolled pebbles, typical of the region, which store heat during the day and release it at night. The selected vines, with an average age of seventy years, produce fruit of beautiful concentration.
Winemaking and aging
The 2024 vintage is vinified using whole clusters, without destemming, to promote freshness and structural complexity. Aging first takes place over eight months in used French oak barrels aged two to three years. The wine then rests for a further ten months in large wooden foudres made from Allier and Tronçais oak, allowing for a gentle and harmonious evolution.
