Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Hermitage "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 from Tardieu Laurent
Food and Wine Pairing
The Hermitage "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 will pair ideally with fine poultry prepared in creamy or mushroom sauces, as well as firm-fleshed fish and shellfish in sauce. It will also match beautifully with aged, cooked-curd cheeses such as Comté or Beaufort.
Serving and Cellaring
As this wine is still en primeur, it will be necessary to wait until it has been bottled to refine our tasting recommendations. However, one can anticipate serving it at around 14-15°C, letting it breathe for a few moments before tasting to reveal the full richness expected from this cuvée.
A White Hermitage from the Northern Rhône, Dense and Precise, Crafted by Tardieu-Laurent
The Estate
Founded in 1996 in Lourmarin, in the Luberon, Tardieu-Laurent is a négociant-éleveur house with no vineyards of its own, specialising in the crus of the Rhône Valley. Now run by the Tardieu family, with Michel at the origin of the project, his son Bastien in charge of winemaking and his daughter Camille heading up sales, the house works with around a hundred partner growers. Its identity rests on the selection of old vines, environmentally respectful viticulture and long ageing inspired by Burgundian practices.
The Vineyard
This cuvée comes from renowned lieux-dits on the Hermitage hill, namely Les Pierrelles, Les Beaumes, Les Murets and La Croix, on predominantly clay-granite soils. The Marsanne vines are more than fifty years old, while the Roussanne vines are over forty, providing raw material from deeply rooted vines with naturally moderate yields.
The Vintage
The 2025 vintage is described by the house as paradoxical, with a mild, wet winter that allowed the soils to build up good water reserves. In the northern Rhône Valley, conditions were more favourable than elsewhere, with measured rainfall and parallel progression of phenolic and physiological ripeness, resulting in alcohol levels that rarely exceed 13%.
Winemaking and Ageing
The Hermitage "Vieilles Vignes" 2025 undergoes its alcoholic and malolactic fermentations in barrels, both new and one year old, where it spends its first year of ageing. It is then transferred to Stockinger foudres for a second year, a two-stage process that gradually integrates the oak without masking the density of the fruit.
