Description
Characteristics and Tasting Tips for the Riesling Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett 2025 from Weingut Dönnhoff
Tasting
Appearance
A beautiful pale yellow in colour, this wine shows greenish highlights in its youth, evolving towards more golden hues with time.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet is remarkably pure, blending orchard fruit notes such as apple and peach with zesty citrus, along with delicate touches of white flowers and fresh herbs. A pronounced minerality, evoking wet stone and slate, underpins the whole.
Palate
This wine offers a classic, linear profile of remarkable elegance. The palate is vibrant and precise, driven by a lively, crisp acidity. A saline minerality is perfectly balanced by a subtle residual sweetness, delivering a fluid texture and a fresh, lingering finish.
Food and wine pairing
Thanks to its beautiful balance between sweetness and acidity, this wine is a wonderful match for lightly spiced Asian dishes, as well as fish and shellfish served with lemony sauces. It also pairs very well with German or Alsatian cuisine, particularly pork-based or smoked preparations, and can elevate pastries or be enjoyed on its own as an aperitif.
Serving and cellaring
The Riesling Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett 2025 can be enjoyed in its youth to appreciate its freshness, but it also has excellent ageing potential. It will be ideal to drink until around 2040, a period during which it will develop greater complexity and harmony.
The Mineral Elegance of the Nahe by Weingut Dönnhoff
The estate
Located in Oberhausen an der Nahe, in the Nahe region, Weingut Dönnhoff is a true global benchmark. Although the family has been cultivating vines here since the 18th century, the modern wine estate was founded in the 1920s under the impetus of Hermann Dönnhoff. Today, Cornelius Dönnhoff, supported by his father Helmut, runs this exceptional property. A member of the VDP and Fair'n Green certified, this prestigious name stands out for its commitment to sustainability and its ability to produce wines of crystalline purity, faithfully reflecting the geological mosaic of its terroirs.
The vineyard
The grapes come from the Oberhäuser Leistenberg vineyard site, located in a small side valley of the Nahe. This exceptional German terroir is characterised by a steep, south-east-facing slope. This orientation allows the vines, aged between 25 and 45 years, to benefit from the morning sun while avoiding the excessive heat of the afternoon. The vines thrive in soils composed of grey clay slate, delivering controlled yields of around 65 hectolitres per hectare.
Winemaking and maturation
To craft the Riesling Oberhäuser Leistenberg Kabinett 2025, the grapes are 100% selectively hand-harvested. In the cellar, fermentation and maturation follow traditional methods, combining stainless steel tanks with large neutral oak foudres in order to preserve the aromatic purity of the fruit.
