Tasting
Appearance
The wine displays a beautiful deep, bright ruby-red color, reflecting fine intensity.
Nose
The nose reveals an aromatic bouquet marked by garrigue and spices, accompanied by subtle notes of black fruits such as blackcurrant, blueberry, and blackberry. Hints of raspberry, ripe strawberry, white pepper, and mint complete this rich aromatic palette.
Palate
On the palate, this wine offers a creamy texture and a rounded mouthfeel, supported by juicy, perfectly integrated tannins. The whole is distinguished by a harmonious balance that extends into a remarkably long and fresh finish.
Food and wine pairings
This red wine pairs wonderfully with spit-roasted saddle of lamb, roasted quail with grapes, or venison with lingonberries. It will also elegantly accompany a spelt and mushroom risotto.
Serving and cellaring
For optimal tasting, it is recommended to serve this Gigondas 2022 at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. This wine can be enjoyed now but also has excellent aging potential, allowing it to develop favorably until around 2029.
The authentic expression of a Gigondas terroir by Xavier Vignon
The estate
Originally from Picardy, Xavier Vignon settled in the Southern Rhône Valley in 1996 as a consulting oenologist. Drawing on his expertise, he gradually developed his own cuvées to become a key producer in the region. Renowned for the creativity and quality of his wines, the estate, based in Beaumes-de-Venise and Le Barroux, stands out for its commitment to organic farming and biodynamics, always striving to reveal the original purity of the grapes.
The vineyard
This Gigondas wine comes from a meticulous selection of more than thirty parcels located at altitude, on the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. The vines, aged between 80 and 100 years, thrive on soils composed of limestone scree offering excellent drainage. This unique terroir benefits from a contrasting microclimate, marked by hot summers and the cooling influence of the Mistral, promoting low yields with exceptional concentration.
The vintage
The year 2022 stood out for particularly favorable climatic conditions in the Rhône Valley. Moderate summer temperatures allowed for gentle and gradual ripening of the berries, avoiding excessive water stress. This mild weather thus ensured a fine preservation of the grapes’ natural acidity.
Winemaking and aging
After careful harvesting, the grapes destined for this Gigondas 2022 undergo complete destemming. The grape varieties are then vinified together in vats to promote harmonious integration. Once malolactic fermentation is complete, the wine is aged in truncated cone-shaped wooden vats. This technical choice adds complexity and softens the tannins while preserving the brightness of the fruit and the identity of the terroir, without imparting overly pronounced woody notes.
Grape varieties
This wine is a blend of Grenache and Mourvèdre.
