The elegance and precision of a high-altitude Greek wine from the Florina region in Macedonia
The estate
Founded in 1995 by Makis Mavridis, a viticultural agronomist, and Angelos Iatridis, an oenologist trained in Bordeaux, Alpha Estate embodies the renewal of contemporary Greek wines. Based in Amyndeon in Macedonia, the estate spans 220 hectares, combining traditional expertise with cutting-edge technology. Renowned for its philosophy and parcel-by-parcel approach, Alpha Estate produces wines distinguished by their finesse, balance and authentic expression of terroir.
The vineyard
Aghia Kiriaki covers 2.45 hectares at 535 meters above sea level on the Amyndeon plateau, in the Florina winegrowing area. Planted in 2006, this vineyard in Macedonia and Thrace benefits from a north-west exposure facing Mount Voras. The Assyrtiko vines are grown on clay-sandy soils overlying limestone conglomerates, ensuring optimal drainage.
Vinification and aging
The Assyrtiko Ecosystem Single Block Aghia Kiriaki 2024 undergoes 6 hours of skin contact before a temperature-controlled alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Fermentation is carried out by indigenous flora isolated specifically from the Aghia Kiriaki vineyard, thereby preserving the terroir’s unique identity. The wine is then kept on fine lees for 8 months with regular stirring, developing aromatic complexity and a creamy texture.
Grape variety
100% Assyrtiko, a Greek white grape variety renowned for its ability to produce structured, mineral white wines, even in warm climates.
