An aromatic Malagouzia from Greek Macedonia by Alpha Estate

The estate

Founded in 1995 by Makis Mavridis, winemaker, and Angelos Iatridis, oenologist, Alpha Estate now farms 220 hectares of vineyards in the Amyndeon region of Western Macedonia, near Florina. Management is shared by the founders and the new generation, represented by Angeliki Iatridou, Emorfili and Konstantina Mavridou. This Greek estate stands out for its precise viticulture and its Ecosystem range, with 92 plots vinified separately using indigenous yeasts. As the only Greek estate advised by Eric Boissenot, Alpha Estate places indigenous grape varieties such as xinomavro and malagouzia at the heart of its work.

The vineyard

The Turtles vineyard, whose name means “The Turtles,” is located in the Florina area of Western Macedonia at an altitude between 600 and 700 meters. The vines are rooted in a sandy-clay terroir that benefits from a semi-continental climate, giving the wine its unique personality.

Vinification and aging

Hand-harvested. Vinification of the Malagouzia Turtles Single Vineyard 2025 begins with skin contact to extract aromatic precursors. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in temperature-controlled stainless-steel tanks to preserve the freshness and aromatic expression of the grape variety. This Greek wine is then aged on fine lees.
