Description

Tasting characteristics and advice for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Noirots" 2019 from Bouchard Père & Fils

Tasting

Appearance
A vivid, luminous ruby hue dresses this wine, characteristic of great young Burgundian Pinot Noir.

Nose
The bouquet reveals fine aromatic complexity dominated by small red berries, notably raspberry and cherry. Notes of sweet spices and cocoa add depth, alongside floral touches of violet and subtle mineral nuances.

Palate
The attack is fresh and delicate, revealing a silky, elegant texture. Polished, well-integrated tannins structure the palate without ever overpowering the fruit. The wine unfolds with balance, offering flavors of crisp red fruit, licorice, and discreet woodland notes. The finish, long and refined, lingers gracefully with notes of pure fruit and minerality.

Food and wine pairings

This Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru pairs harmoniously with feathered game in sauce, roast lamb, or Bresse capon. It also complements roast veal with finesse, as well as soft-ripened cheeses such as Brillat-Savarin, Cîteaux, or Vacherin.

Serving and cellaring

The Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Noirots" 2019 is best enjoyed at a temperature between 14 and 16°C. Aerating for 30 to 60 minutes before serving will allow the wine to reveal its full aromatic complexity. This wine can be enjoyed now but will continue to evolve until around 2034.

The finesse and concentration of a Chambolle-Musigny premier cru

The estate

Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard in Beaune, the House of Bouchard Père & Fils is one of Burgundy’s most prestigious wine institutions. Today, the estate farms ninety-nine hectares spread across seventy-seven climats of the Côte d'Or, including twelve hectares of grand cru and seventy-four of premier cru. Owned by the Bouchard family for two hundred and sixty-four years, then by the Henriot family from 1995 to 2022, the company is now owned by Artémis Domaines of François Pinault, under the general management of Frédéric Engerer.

The vineyard

The climat Les Noirots is among the twenty-five premier crus of the Chambolle-Musigny appellation, located in the heart of the Côte de Nuits. This parcel benefits from a favorable southeast exposure and lies on clay-limestone soil made up of compact Premeaux limestone studded with chailles. These silica nodules provide optimal drainage and lend a subtle minerality to the wines. The gentle yet sufficiently pronounced slope ensures ideal conditions for the expression of Pinot Noir, a delicate grape variety that finds an exceptional terroir here between 250 and 300 meters in altitude.

The vintage

The 2019 vintage established itself as an exceptional year in Burgundy for red wines. After a spring frost and humid conditions during flowering that reduced yields, the dry, hot summer weather concentrated the crop. Cool nights helped preserve acidity and extend ripening, encouraging the development of complex aromatics. Harvested in mid-September, the grapes arrived in perfect health, combining ripeness and freshness in a rare balance.

Vinification and aging

The grapes for the Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru "Les Noirots" 2019 were hand-harvested in small crates and then carefully sorted. Fermentation took place in small vessels for fifteen to twenty days, followed by gentle pressing. The wine was then aged for twelve to fourteen months in French oak barrels, 40 to 50% new oak, allowing the woody aromas to integrate harmoniously with the wine’s fruity structure.

Grape variety

Pinot noir.
