Description
Tasting characteristics and advice for the Chambolle-Musigny Village 2021 from Bouchard Père & Fils
Tasting
Appearance
The color displays a bright ruby-red hue.
Nose
Highly expressive, the nose evokes red fruits with a delicate woody touch. The bouquet reveals aromas of blackcurrant, pepper and undergrowth, complemented by summery floral notes and black raspberry that open up beautifully with aeration.
Palate
Supple and refined, the palate offers a structure of remarkable finesse. The tannins, well-contained and moderately dry, are harmoniously balanced by a fresh acidity. The silky, intense texture unfolds flavors of black and red fruits, highlighted by a fine minerality that adds elegance. The finish, with lovely length, lingers on notes of licorice, cherry and candied fruit.
Food and wine pairings
This Chambolle-Musigny Village 2021 pairs perfectly with ribs, leg of lamb and rack of lamb. It also elegantly accompanies roasted poultry and feathered game, veal, meat or vegetable skewers, as well as wok preparations. Pasta and risottos with mushrooms or meat also make excellent pairings. For cheese, opt for Camembert and Brie.
Serving and cellaring
The Chambolle-Musigny Village 2021 is ideally served at a temperature of 16°C. A light aeration in a decanter or in the glass helps fully reveal its aromatic complexity. This wine can be enjoyed now and will continue to evolve until around 2034.

The estate
Founded in 1731 by Michel Bouchard in Beaune, Bouchard Père & Fils is one of the oldest houses in Burgundy. The estate now spans around 130 hectares across 77 climats, including 12 hectares of grands crus and 74 hectares of premiers crus, including the iconic monopoly Beaune Grèves Vigne de l'Enfant Jésus. Since September 2022, the property has been owned by Artémis Domaines of François Pinault, which has undertaken a major restructuring with the creation in October 2025 of the Domaine des Cabottes, bringing together the 35 most prestigious hectares. The entire vineyard obtained organic certification in 2025, with a biodynamic conversion initiated as early as 2026, marking a decisive environmental turning point for this Burgundian institution.
The vineyard
The Chambolle-Musigny appellation covers only 180 hectares, nestled between Morey-Saint-Denis to the north and Vougeot to the south. The vines grow on Jurassic limestone soils particularly well suited to Pinot Noir, at elevations between 253 and 348 meters. The upper parcels feature white oolitic limestone, while the lower areas reveal deep soils with a high clay content.
The vintage
The 2021 vintage in Burgundy proved particularly challenging. After a relatively mild winter, early budburst at the end of March left the vines vulnerable to the devastating frosts of April. From April 5 to 7, temperatures dropping to as low as minus eight degrees caused considerable damage throughout the region. Despite these difficult conditions, Chambolle-Musigny stood out for its ability to produce wines of remarkable elegance. Drastically reduced yields gave rise to harmonious, balanced wines, with moderate alcohol levels reflecting the freshness of the vintage.
Vinification and aging
The grapes for Chambolle-Musigny Village 2021 are harvested by hand, allowing for rigorous selection. Vinification takes place in open vats with indigenous yeasts, favoring the natural expression of the terroir. Fermentation lasts two to three weeks, with regular punch-downs and pump-overs for controlled extraction. Aging takes place over fourteen to sixteen months in French oak barrels, 20 to 25% of which are new, allowing a harmonious integration of the woody notes without masking the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
