Carillon d'Angelus 2021

Decidedly compact in style, with plenty of breed, firm tannins; a rather fiery finish.

The 2021 Le Carillon d'Angélus offers up aromas of dark berries, grilled plums, espresso roast, sweet soil tones and cigar wrapper, followed by a medium to full-bodied, fleshy and layered palate that's deep and concentrated, with lively acids, chalky tannins and a long, youthfully oak-inflected finish. Like its big sibling, it's closed with a natural cork.

Beautifully expressive aromatics really jump from the glass: alive and nuanced, floral and fruity – rosehip, cranberry, cardamom, cinnamon. Supple and lithe, this has lovely movement. Not super tense and straight, nor dense and chewy; somewhere in between, with bright, mouth-watering acidity that lifts the expression. Hints of chalky minerality on the finish bring it back into focus with a moreish edge. Tannins are excellent, barely noticeable yet providing the frame and support to the structure. Well delivered. Gorgeous purity, balance and harmony – really lovely drinking here.

This delicious wine is crunchy and crisp with plums, redcurrants, flowers and light cedar. Medium body, juicy tannins and a fresh finish. 80% merlot and 20% cabernet franc. Drink or hold.

Red pit fruits, espresso, earth, black raspberries and flowers are what you notice at first. On the palate, the wine is soft, fresh, sweet, fruity and pure, with a lean to the raspberry and red plum side of the style range that you will be able to enjoy on release. Dark ruby core, purple reflections, subtle brightening on the rim. Floral aromas with fresh red cherries, a touch of cranberries with hints of tobacco nuances, DELICATE orange zest. The 2021 Le Carillon D'Angélus is 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc that spent 18 months in 60% new French oak. Black cherries, mulberries, spicy wood, and hints of graphite and spicy wood all define the aromatics, and this beauty hits the palate with medium-bodied richness, a lively, elegant mouthfeel, fine tannins, and outstanding length.

Cabernet Franc dominates the aromatic profile; chalky, refined, and deep, it evokes Canon or Chapelle d’Ausone. On the palate, it shows ultra-fine tannins with excellent freshness and great layered depth. An extremely brilliant Carillon, long and multi-faceted, extremely fresh and very structured throughout.

Double the amount of Cabernet Franc than usual, because Merlot was more affected by frost and mildew, and it has a big impact on the character of the wine, giving a huge lift to the aromatics but also increasing austerity and tension. Expect clove and white pepper spice, a ton of slate and graphite, blueberry fruit, precise and finessed. Not your typical Carillon but full of balance and finesse, with a slow reveal across the palate. 60% new oak with the rest in stainless steel, 16 hl/ha yield.

A blend of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Carillon d’Angelus is medium to deep garnet-purple in color. It races out with bright, cheery notes of red cherries, violets, black raspberries, and cinnamon stick, with an underlying hint of cardamom. The medium-bodied palate is soft and lively, with plenty of perfumed, red berry flavors and a minerally finish.

Carillon reveals itself with finesse, in a precise, almost timid way. The floral nuances are supported by the oak, which does a very relevant and effective job. It’s the wine that takes the lead, showing a direction focused on the character of the place and the grape variety, given the extraordinary proportion of Cabernet Franc. A structured, linear, agile, and muscular wine. Saline, mouthwatering finish.

80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc) The nose is aromatic and indulgent, with spices and a touch of concentration. It reveals notes of fleshy blackberry, violet, and, more subtly, griotte cherry, with fine hints of sweet blond tobacco, a subtle touch of vanilla, and cardamom. The palate is beautifully mineral and balanced, offering precision, tension, a certain accuracy, gourmandise, a fine velvety/powdery grain, and a certain brightness of fruit. On the palate, this wine shows notes of juicy/pulpy blackcurrant, fleshy/juicy blackberry, and, more lightly, fresh/tangy raspberry, combined with a touch of fresh/crisp small red fruits, discreet saline/iodized hints, and fine touches of nutmeg and toast. A fine chew and a lovely toastiness on the finish/persistence. A discreet hint of chocolate on the finish.

Beautiful deep, dark red. Very aromatic nose, fruity, subtle and delicate. The wine stands out for its lovely texture, unusual brilliance and juicy, complete, gourmet character. Noble. Blend: 80% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Franc. Alcohol: 13.6% - pH: 3.6. Yield: 16 hl/ha.

80% Merlot in this 2021, bringing a succulent red-fruit nose with enticing notes of raspberry and wild strawberry, lifted by sweet spices and a floral touch of violets. Creamy and caressing on the palate, it shows superb tension and filigree precision.
