Description
Characteristics and Tasting Notes for the Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Dent de Chien" 2022 Château de la Maltroye
Tasting
Colour
A beautiful pale yellow colour with golden hues, typical of its youth.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with intense floral notes of honeysuckle and honey, enhanced by touches of menthol and redcurrant. Nuances of butter, fresh citrus, and a flinty minerality complete this palette.
Palate
The attack is fresh and elegant, revealing a texture that is dense, round, and crisp all at once. The balance is remarkable, carried by a tangy acidity and a superb minerality that lingers on a chalky, precise finish.
Food and Wine Pairing
Ideal with noble fish such as grilled or poached sole, this white wine from France also pairs beautifully with shellfish in cream or beurre blanc sauce. It goes perfectly with poultry and white meats, as well as dishes with Asian influences.
Service and Storage
To fully appreciate this Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Dent de Chien" 2022, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 12 and 14°C. This wine can be cellared and will be ready to drink until around 2035.
The Mineral Precision of a Great White Wine from Chassagne-Montrachet
The Estate
Officially established in 1941 following the acquisition of the land by the Picard family, Château de la Maltroye is an essential reference in Burgundy. Located in the heart of the village, this fifteen-hectare estate is now run by Jean-Pierre Cornut. Since 1993, this former engineer has instilled a genuine quest for technical precision and innovation, while respecting winegrowing traditions. Renowned worldwide for the exceptional quality of its terroirs, the estate stands out for its high proportion of Premiers and Grands Crus, offering wines of great purity.
The Vineyard
The plot from which this wine originates covers just 0.64 hectares within the Chassagne-Montrachet appellation. Perched between 250 and 300 metres in altitude, the vines thrive on a brown clay-limestone soil that is particularly stony and shallow. This distinctive geology forces the root system to draw deeply on the limestone bedrock, giving the grapes an early ripening and an exceptional mineral character. The grapes are harvested exclusively by hand with rigorous sorting.
The Vintage
2022 was marked by particularly hot, dry, and sunny weather conditions. This extreme climate was ideally tempered by welcome rainfall at the end of June, allowing the vines to build up essential water reserves. A final rain at the end of August completed the growing cycle, resulting in grapes in impeccable health and with optimal ripeness.
Winemaking and Aging
As soon as they arrive at the winery, the grapes are gently pressed within two hours to preserve all their aromatic freshness. Fermentation begins at a low temperature in stainless steel tanks. Halfway through, the must is transferred into French oak barrels, 25 to 30% of which are new, to complete alcoholic fermentation and undergo malolactic fermentation. This Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Dent de Chien" 2022 is then aged in barrels for twelve months, before light fining, gentle filtration, and vacuum bottling.
Grape Variety
This wine is made exclusively from Chardonnay.
