Description
A seductive Margaux Grand Cru Classé with vibrancy and finesse
The estate
Located on the Left Bank of Bordeaux, Château Giscours is a historic estate of the Margaux appellation with vines first planted in the 16th century. This superb 3rd Cru Classé of Margaux is a true standard-bearer of the Bordeaux region, with its distinctive architecture reminiscent of a neoclassical palace, its park of rare species, and its buildings including the beautiful “Ferme Suzanne.” Since 1995, Château Giscours has entered a new era of its history following its acquisition by the Albada Jelgersma family.
The vineyard
Château Giscours 2022 is a Margaux wine produced from a vineyard of 95 hectares in production out of a total of 300 hectares. A true gem, the uniqueness of Château Giscours’ terroir lies in the presence of three deep Garonne gravel rises that play a decisive role in the grapes’ ripening cycle.
The wine
This Château Giscours 2022 was named Wine of the Year in Wine Spectator’s Top 100, 2025 edition.
The vintage
A mild winter preceded a particularly hot and dry spring and summer. The team’s expertise and rigor preserved the vineyard’s health. Natural mulching from cover crops notably protected the soils from heat and promoted the capture of water from summer storms to replenish reserves. Despite their small size, the concentrated berries withstood the heatwave ideally thanks to their deep roots.
Winemaking and aging
Harvest from September 1 to 29. Manual and optical sorting. Vinification in concrete and stainless-steel vats. Maceration for 35 days at 28°C. Aging lasts 17 months in French oak barrels, 50% new wood.
Blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (64%)
Merlot (30%)
Petit Verdot (3%)
Cabernet Franc (3%)
