Château Malartic-Lagravière 2008

A stunning blend of 85% Sauvignon Blanc and 15% Semillon, this medium-bodied wine offers up hints of citrus oil, orange zest and honeyed grapefruit. It should drink well for a decade.

Very juicy, with an almost plump core of grapefruit pulp and straw, but the bracing chamomile, quinine and quince notes harness this well, lending zip and length to the rich finish. Drink now through 2013. Tasted twice, with consistent notes. 830 cases made.

A delicious 2008, singing with the salinity that takes pole position in older whites without sacrificing minerality or juiciness. It has flavours of white pear and finely drawn citrus, with the saffron-edged sweetness of age. Perfect for drinking now.

Lemon sorbet and sliced green apples on the nose. Full-bodied, with a chalky lime and green-apple palate. Dense and rich, with just a hint of cream. Drink now.

At 10 years of age, this is really hitting its stride. The wine is fresh, stony, citrusy, and delivers a ripe, sweet, crisp, citrus-filled finish. Sweet and fresh, with good energy, it’s showing real strength today. I’m not sure it will improve, but it’s just great now—so why wait?

Pale color. An aromatic nose, fruity and delicately creamy. Broad and luscious from the attack, then particularly juicy; the wine builds powerfully mid-palate and is full of fruit. It melts on the palate and finishes rich, very long, and complex. A delight.

89-91 Barrel sample. Rich and powerful, this has big, full flavors. It has an oily texture, suggesting high alcohol, the wood element balanced. The aftertaste has a spicy element.
