Château Nénin 2021

The 2021 Nenin is a decided overperformer, bursting from the glass with notes of dark berries, plums and cherries, complemented by exotic top notes of rose petals, violets, Indian spices and orange zest. Medium to full-bodied, fleshy and velvety, it's lively and polished, with a layered core of fruit and a long, perfumed finish.

Reserved in style, but the core of steeped cherry, red currant and blood orange flavors has excellent definition, while rooibos tea, sweet bay leaf and savory sparkles add range on the finish. Reveals a polished edge, which works well with the late tug of earth on the finish. Merlot and Cabernet Franc. Best from 2026 through 2036.

Potpourri aromas, perfumed and floral, with strawberry and cherry chocolate. Crunchy and lively on the palate with an initial mouthwatering sensation that comes from all corners of the mouth. It's a touch soft on the mid-palate, losing a little of the glamorous and plush fruit-forward character, leaving some liquorice spice, iodine and clove in the middle. It’s so fruity and lively at the beginning—the bitter grapefruit, blood orange, sour cherry and raspberry—then it stops just a little short, suddenly becoming quite shy, with terroir effects of graphite and wet stone and the Cabernet Franc spice and focus coming in and taking over. It has a gently caressing feel, however, classic and straight, with a seamless tannic structure. Good precision on show and it will benefit from ageing.

This has aromas and flavors of dark fruit, bark, chocolate, cedar and mushrooms. The palate is medium- to full-bodied, with a fleshy texture around the chewy and polished tannins. Needs time to soften, as it’s a little austere now. Best after 2026.

The 2021 Nénin has an open bouquet with redcurrant and raspberry fruit, a hint of wilted iris flower and a light marine influence. The oak is nicely integrated, though it is not as complex as other vintages. The palate is medium-bodied with sappy black fruit. Just a light touch of white pepper lends a little more complexity to what feels like a "solid" finish. This is maybe missing the finesse of its peers, but there is commendable length. Fine.

Cherries, flowers, chocolate, and a baby hint of pineapple create the nose. On the palate, the wine is classic in nature with a firm accent to the sweet, crisp, ripe red and black plums. The wine blends 64% Merlot and 36% Cabernet Franc. Drink from 2025-2042. 91-93

The 2021 Château Nenin is up-front and lively, with the vintage’s fresher, vibrant style in its mulberry and redcurrant-like fruit as well as spicy herbs and tobacco notes. It’s medium-bodied, balanced, has soft tannins, and present yet nicely integrated acidity. I’d give bottles 2–4 years and enjoy over the following decade.

Nenin 2021 is a rich Pomerol with plenty of flesh and core. Its noble tannins are very clear and compact. They support the opulent Pomerol character with a well-rounded, tannin-driven backdrop and excellent breed.

Kunz barrel sample 2022: (64% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Franc, 13.31% alc./vol.) Silky, fruity, finely creamy bouquet, raspberries, blackcurrant jelly, mint, slate. Dense, finely creamy, full palate with silky, delicate fruit, elegant structure, fine tannins, powerful, fresh aromatics, fine minerality, long, fragrant finish.

In bottle this totally lives up to En Primeur promise, with blackberry and damson fruits, crayon, iodine and grilled earth, with the signature of Nenin in its serious style. Captures the spirit of 2021 in the best sense. Harvest September 23 to October 4. 35% new oak, 3.53 pH. No frost impact here, but 21 nights of fighting it through the early season.

A blend of 64% Merlot and 36% Cabernet Franc, the 2021 Nenin has a medium to deep garnet-purple color. It gallops out with expressive scents of kirsch and juicy plums, giving way to nuances of red roses, allspice, and fragrant earth. The medium-bodied palate is soft and refreshing, with perfumed red fruit lingering with appealing purity.

A bright, flamboyant nose with clearly defined red fruits and roses, dominated by wild strawberry, as if walking through a forest. Full and generous on the palate, sensual, it is marked by a refreshing, well‑defined structure that echoes the pure fruit on the nose. On the palate, the fruit has a succulent sweetness.

Very beautiful fruity intensity on the bouquet, marked by refreshing notes of red berries. Lively on the attack, the wine stands out for its precision and the fine grain of its tannins. These are well integrated, providing ideal support and promoting not only power but also aromatic persistence. A sapid Nénin that once again confirms its finesse and its ability to stand out in more challenging vintages.

Dark, deep purple color. Very aromatic nose with pure, ripe fruit. Precise on the attack, very flavorful mid-palate with both taste and substance; the wine caresses the palate before finishing long, delicious, and silky, much like a Pomerol. Lovely!
