The estate
A 5th Grand Cru Classé of Pauillac, Château Pontet-Canet has experienced an unprecedented rise to the top, and is today considered one of the most iconic estates of the Médoc. Led by Justine and Alfred Tesseron, Château Pontet-Canet has established itself as one of the pioneers of biodynamics in the Pauillac appellation, with results that have exceeded all expectations. From vintage to vintage, the property stands out as one of the most beautiful references of its prestigious appellation.
The vineyard
Ecocert and Biodyvin certified for the past 10 years, the Château Pontet-Canet vineyard extends over 81 hectares and is cultivated with the utmost respect for the vine and the environment surrounding it. The vineyards are ploughed by draft-horse to avoid overly packing the soil. The estate is managed with a biodynamic approach. Through their hard work and vast knowledge of the vineyard terroir, the technical teams of the estate allow the vine to express itself at its best.
The winemaking
For the first time, the vinification of the 2019 vintage took place with manual sorting and destemming of the fruit without the use of a machine. The maceration process was carried out on whole bunches with light punch-downs.
The ageing
50% new barrels, 35% dolia barrels (of concrete, custom-made with elements from the Pontet-Canet terroir) and 15% in barrels of one previous wine.
The blend
Cabernet Sauvignon (65%), Merlot (30%), Cabernet Franc (3%), Petit Verdot (2%).
Tasting
The quest for uncompromising and continuous excellence has resulted in a beautiful Château Pontet-Canet 2019, which successfully expresses the unique qualities of the Pauillac terroir. The 2019 vintage has rewarded the efforts of the technical team and the research carried out by Justine and Alfred Tesseron. The Château Pontet-Canet 2019 reveals with great purity and without artifice all the uniqueness qualities of the Pauillac terroir in a perfectly balanced vintage.
