The Depth and Freshness of a Great Haut-Médoc Wine

The Estate
Located in Saint-Seurin-de-Cadourne in the Bordeaux region, Château Sociando-Mallet has origins dating back to the 17th century, though it was established under its current name in the 1850s. After a period of decline, the estate experienced a spectacular revival in 1969 when it was acquired by Jean Gautreau. Today, his daughter Sylvie Gautreau runs the property with passion, upholding the family's commitment to producing wines of great ageing potential and elevating this unclassified cru to the level of the most prestigious estates.

The Vineyard
Overlooking the Gironde estuary, the vineyard covers approximately 85 hectares within the Haut-Médoc appellation. The vines, averaging around thirty years of age, are planted on the renowned Baleyron rise. This exceptional terroir consists of Günzian gravel resting on a deep clay-limestone subsoil, providing optimal drainage and perfect water regulation. Cultivation is carried out in a traditional manner, with a high planting density reaching 8,333 vines per hectare, encouraging greater concentration in the grapes.

Winemaking and Ageing
The production of Château Sociando-Mallet 1994 relies on modern facilities, including temperature-controlled stainless steel and concrete tanks. This equipment allows for precise control of fermentation and gentle extraction to preserve aromatic freshness. The wine then undergoes careful ageing in oak barrels, which give it a solid structure and a complex patina over the months.

Grape Varieties
This wine is crafted from a blend dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in almost equal proportions (around 48% and 47%), complemented by a touch of Cabernet Franc (approximately 5%).
