Description

Tasting notes and serving suggestions for the Monte Bianco 2023 from Domaine Comte Abbatucci

Tasting

Color
Beautiful red hue adorned with subtle ruby highlights.

Nose
Strawberries, morello cherries and Corsican maquis plants (myrtle) intertwine in a rich, powerful bouquet.

Palate
A slightly toasty attack gives way to a fruity palate, whose fine, silky tannins linger through to a persistent, expressive finish.

A red wine combining complexity and refinement

The estate
Located at over 100 meters above sea level, Domaine Comte Abbatucci is home to one of Corsica’s oldest vineyards.

With origins dating back more than a century, the estate pays tribute, through its cuvées, to illustrious family figures (a General of the French Revolution, a diplomat, a minister under the reign of Napoleon III) whose destinies shaped the family history.

Keen to preserve this exceptional island terroir, the estate cultivates indigenous grape varieties that give its wines a unique character.
Since 2000, the entire vineyard has been farmed biodynamically, to magnify the qualities of a distinctive Corsican terroir while preserving an exceptional natural environment.

The vineyard
Produced as Vin de France, the Monte Bianco cuvée from Domaine Abbatucci comes from a north-facing vineyard, with vines growing on a granitic terroir.

Winemaking and aging
Gravity reception of the harvest before destemming without crushing. Skin maceration in temperature-controlled tronconical vats and vatting for around 1 month, with daily punch-downs and pump-overs. Spontaneous fermentations are carried out in the woods. After racking off and pressing the pomace, the juices are separated before aging in demi-muids for 12 months. Racking and blending in stainless-steel tanks precede a further 6 months of aging before bottling.

Grape variety
100% sciaccarello.
