An elegant Burgundy Grand Cru of rare intensity
The estate
The Domaine des Lambrays, established in Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy, traces its roots back to 1365, when Clos des Lambrays appears in the archives of the Abbey of Cîteaux. The modern estate was born in 1836 thanks to wine merchant Louis Joly, who reassembled the fragmented clos after the Revolution. In 1981, Clos des Lambrays attained Grand Cru status. Owned by the LVMH group since 2014, it marked the group’s first acquisition in Burgundy. The estate is defined by its exceptional history and its walled terroir enclosed by stone walls, producing wines of remarkable intensity and elegance.
The vineyard
Clos des Lambrays is a near-monopoly and represents the largest area of Grand Cru vines in the entire Côte de Nuits. Spanning 8.7 hectares in a single contiguous plot, this Burgundian vineyard unfolds majestically at 250 meters above sea level, benefiting from optimal exposure and excellent ventilation. The clay-limestone soils give the wines outstanding depth and complexity.
The vintage
Budbreak took place on April 8, two days ahead of the average. Flowering occurred on May 28, ten days earlier than usual. A humid June with 150mm of precipitation favored vegetative growth, while July and August proved very dry and sunny with only 33mm of rain, slightly delaying ripeness. Harvesting took place from September 1 to 5, 2022.
Vinification and aging
Clos des Lambrays Grand Cru 2022 underwent a long three-week alcoholic fermentation in wooden vats. Vinification is carried out entirely by gravity using indigenous yeasts. The proportion of whole clusters reaches 80%. Aging continues for 19 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new oak.
Grape variety
100% pinot noir.
