The estate
The Domaine des Lambrays, established in Morey-Saint-Denis in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, has a history dating back to 1365. Its modern structure gradually took shape from the 19th century, before Grand Cru status was granted in 1981. Owned by the LVMH group since 2014, the estate farms around 12 hectares of vines on clay-limestone soils. Under the direction of Jacques Devauges, estate manager since 2019, Domaine des Lambrays is one of Burgundy’s most historic estates.
The vineyard
The Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "La Richemone" comes from a parcel planted in 1924. Located within the Nuits-Saint-Georges appellation, this terroir benefits from conditions well suited to the expression of Pinot Noir.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage saw early budbreak on April 8, two days ahead of the average. Flowering took place on May 28, ten days earlier than usual. June proved particularly wet with 150 mm of rainfall, encouraging vegetative growth. July and August then brought very dry, sunny conditions, with only 33 mm of rain. This summer drought delayed ripeness by a week compared with forecasts. The harvest took place on September 6, 2022, with a yield of 38 hl/ha.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking for the Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er cru "La Richemone" 2022 took place in wooden vats for three weeks. The estate carried out vinification with 50% whole clusters, using exclusively indigenous yeasts and working entirely by gravity. Aging of this Bourgogne wine then continued for 17 months in oak barrels, 20% of which were new.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
