The structure and balance of a Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru
The estate
The Domaine des Lambrays, established in Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy, has been rooted in Burgundy’s winegrowing history since 1365, the date of the first mention of Clos des Lambrays in the archives of the Abbaye de Cîteaux. Integrated into the LVMH group in 2014, the estate has been run since 2019 by Jacques Devauges. Holding a near-monopoly over 8.84 hectares of Grand Cru, the property perpetuates traditional winemaking and barrel aging for 12 to 24 months, revealing the elegance of the marl and clay-limestone soils with an east-facing exposure.
The vineyard
The Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Clos Sorbè" comes from a discreet plot of just over one hectare, nestled in the very heart of the village of Morey-Saint-Denis, between the houses. The vines thrive on a gentle, east-facing slope, planted on clay-limestone soils enriched with red earth. This distinctive location and the mineral richness of the terroir offer Pinot Noir ideal conditions to express all its finesse. A carefully managed yield of 45 hectoliters per hectare ensures concentration and quality.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage began with early budbreak on April 8, followed by flowering 10 days ahead of schedule on May 28. June was particularly wet, with 150 millimeters of rainfall, encouraging vigorous vegetative growth. July and August then brought very dry, sunny conditions with only 33 millimeters of rain, slightly slowing ripening. The harvest took place on September 7, 2022 under optimal conditions.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes for the Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru "Clos Sorbè" 2022 are vinified with 40% whole clusters, giving the wine structure and complexity. Fermentation lasts 3 weeks in wooden vats, carried out exclusively by gravity with indigenous yeasts. The aging of this Burgundy wine then takes place over 17 months in oak barrels, 20% of which are new, allowing the wine to develop depth while preserving the expression of the fruit.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
