A Morey-Saint-Denis Premier Cru with an opulent, silky character
The estate
Established in Morey-Saint-Denis, in the heart of the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy, the Domaine des Lambrays holds a near-monopoly on the grand cru Clos des Lambrays, officially classified in 1936. Owned by the LVMH group since 2014—marking its first foothold in Burgundy—the estate has been led by Jacques Devauges since 2019. This concentration of ownership, exceptional in Burgundy, gives Domaine des Lambrays complete control over the quality and expression of this historic terroir.
The vineyard
The Premier Cru "Les Loups" is located within the Morey-Saint-Denis appellation, at the heart of the Côte de Nuits. The vineyard benefits from an outstanding terroir that allows a very high-quality pinot noir to shine.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage began with early budbreak on April 8, two days ahead of the average. Flowering took place on May 28, ten days earlier than usual. June proved particularly wet, with 150 millimeters of rainfall versus the usual 65 millimeters, encouraging significant vegetative growth. July and August were then marked by summer drought and generous sunshine, with only 33 millimeters of cumulative rainfall. This very dry period delayed ripening by one week. Harvesting took place on September 5, 2022.
Winemaking and aging
Winemaking for the Morey-Saint-Denis 1er Cru "Les Loups" 2022 took place in wooden vats over three weeks, allowing for a long, harmonious fermentation. The estate used 40% whole clusters, relying exclusively on indigenous yeasts. The entire process was carried out by gravity, preserving the integrity of the berries. Aging of this vin de Bourgogne continued for 19 months in oak barrels, 20% of which were new oak, bringing structure and complexity without masking the expression of the terroir.
