A Vosne-Romanée Premier Cru with a generous, suave character
The estate
Based in Morey-Saint-Denis in Burgundy, Domaine des Lambrays boasts a winegrowing history dating back to 1365. Owned by the LVMH group since 2014, the estate has been managed by Jacques Devauges since 2019. With 8.84 hectares of grand cru vineyards and an almost monopoly on Clos des Lambrays—classified as grand cru in 1947—Domaine des Lambrays holds a unique position among the great growths of the Côte de Nuits.
The vineyard
The Climat "Les Beaux Monts" is a new acquisition for Domaine des Lambrays, which purchased 0.45 hectares of this prestigious Premier Cru in Vosne-Romanée at the end of 2021. This parcel is home to century-old vines that lend the wine depth and complexity.
The vintage
The 2022 vintage began with early budbreak on April 8, followed by mid-flowering on May 28—ten days earlier than average. June proved particularly wet, with 150 mm of rainfall versus the usual 65 mm, encouraging vegetative growth and volume. July and August were then very dry, with only 33 mm of rain and generous sunshine. This summer drought slowed physiological processes, extending ripening by an additional week compared with initial projections.
Vinification and aging
The Vosne-Romanée 1er cru "Les Beaux Monts" 2022 was harvested on September 6, with a yield of 26 hl/ha. Vinification took place entirely by gravity in wooden vats, with a long, harmonious three-week fermentation. 50% whole-cluster fruit was used, with indigenous yeasts. Aging of this wine from Burgundy continued for 17 months in oak barrels, 20% of which were new oak.
Grape variety
100% Pinot Noir.
