Description

Characteristics and tasting notes of the Condrieu 2024 from Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott

Tasting

Nose
The bouquet is expressive while remaining highly elegant, without ever tipping into exuberance. It reveals stunning aromas of ripe fruit such as apricot, white peach and fresh mango, harmoniously intertwined with notes of honeysuckle, candied citrus, white flowers and a delicate hint of ginger.

Palate
From the very first sip, the wine is broad and silky, offering a generous texture carried by vibrant yellow fruit. The whole is perfectly balanced by a lively acidity and a remarkable mineral tension, drawing the wine towards a lingering and deeply saline finish.

Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs beautifully with noble crustaceans such as lobster or spiny lobster, as well as pan-seared scallops or firm-fleshed fish served with a lightly buttered sauce. It also enhances white meats and roasted poultry served with a mushroom cream sauce, delicately spiced Asian dishes with lemongrass, or characterful cheeses such as Beaufort, Comté and Ossau-Iraty.

Serving and cellaring
With excellent ageing potential, this Condrieu 2024 can be enjoyed until around 2034.

Other characteristics
This dry white wine has an alcohol content of 12.5%. It comes from a controlled yield of 40 hectolitres per hectare.

The pure expression of Viognier by Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott in the Rhône Valley

The estate
Founded in 2015 by Graeme and Julie Bott, Domaine Graeme & Julie Bott is a leading name in the northern Rhône Valley. Starting from scratch by vinifying in their garage, the current owners (structured around the Holding Bott) now cultivate a 7-hectare vineyard. Renowned for its artisanal approach, the estate quickly rose to prominence thanks to a monumental amount of manual work on steep hillsides. The winemaking duo crafts cuvées of great precision, combining freshness with absolute respect for the terroir.

The vineyard
The plots dedicated to this Condrieu stretch across steep granitic terroirs spread over the villages of Condrieu (Côte-Chatillon, La Caille), Vérin (Les Agnettes, Rochebret, Jean Raude) and Saint-Pierre-de-Bœuf (Le Biez, Grand Val). Averaging 25 years of age, the vines are planted at a high density of 10,000 plants per hectare. Due to the vertiginous slopes and dry-stone terraces, all work is carried out by hand. The estate favours sustainable viticulture, keeping interventions to a strict minimum. The harvest is done manually with rigorous sorting directly in the vineyard.

Vinification and ageing
The making of Condrieu 2024 begins with whole-cluster pressing, followed by cold settling and racking off the lees. Fermentation then takes place in barrels. Finally, the wine benefits from careful ageing over 9 months in French oak barrels, allowing the structure to be rounded out while preserving the freshness and minerality of the terroir.
