Description
Characteristics and tasting notes of La Côte des Monts Damnés 2024 from Domaine Henri Bourgeois
Tasting
Appearance
The wine reveals a pale straw-yellow colour, at once bright, luminous and remarkably clear.
Nose
Displaying great finesse, the nose unveils a complex bouquet blending aromas of exotic fruits, such as passion fruit and pineapple, with vibrant citrus notes of lemon and grapefruit. Subtle hints of fresh herbs interweave with a pronounced minerality reminiscent of gunflint.
Palate
The attack is crisp and gives way to a structured palate, endowed with a precise texture and beautiful energy. Flavours of honey and ripe citrus balance with a refreshing acidity, leading into a long, crunchy and deeply mineral finish.
Food and wine pairings
This white wine pairs wonderfully with oysters, seafood or fish, whether grilled or served in a sauce. It also accompanies white meats such as veal escalope beautifully, along with lightly spiced exotic dishes, as well as goat cheeses like Crottin de Chavignol or hard cheeses such as Munster.
Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate La Côte des Monts Damnés 2024, it is recommended to serve it at a temperature between 11 and 12°C. This wine for laying down can be enjoyed in its youth for its freshness, but will continue to gain complexity until around 2034.
A great white wine from Sancerre with pure, mineral expression
The estate
Officially founded in 1950 by Henri Bourgeois from a modest one and a half hectares, Domaine Henri Bourgeois is an emblematic figure of the Loire Valley in France. Today, the estate is run by the Bourgeois family, most notably Jean-Marie, Arnaud, Lionel, Jean-Christophe and Rémi. The vineyard extends over 72 hectares spread across outstanding terroirs. Drawing on a family heritage dating back to 1696, the estate stands out for its quest for excellence, its respect for living things and its recent full conversion to organic farming.
The vineyard
Located in the commune of Chavignol, this exceptional Sancerre terroir rests on Kimmeridgian marl soils, often referred to as terres blanches. The plot benefits from a steep slope facing south to south-east, providing optimal sun exposure and natural drainage. Cultivated according to the principles of organic farming, the vines thrive in a preserved ecosystem where spontaneous grass cover and soil microbial life are encouraged. Due to the steep gradient, yields are naturally limited and the harvest is carried out exclusively by hand.
Winemaking and aging
The grapes, harvested at full maturity, undergo gentle pressing to extract the juices delicately. After cold settling, the fermentation of La Côte des Monts Damnés 2024 takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve aromatic purity. This white Sancerre wine then benefits from extended aging on its fine lees for approximately nine to ten months, giving it added complexity and texture.
