Description
Characteristics and tasting notes for Vouvray "Clos du Bourg" Demi-Sec 2022
Tasting
Colour
This wine reveals an appealing pale straw-yellow hue with beautiful clarity, reflecting a characteristic visual elegance.
Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with unctuous, silky notes of orchard fruit, blending crisp apple, pear and quince. Subtle citrus touches, reminiscent of kumquat, intertwine with delicate white flower nuances and a fine smoky hint.
Palate
The attack is broad, rich and generous. The palate reveals remarkable juiciness, carried by flavours of ripe yellow fruit. The whole is perfectly supported by a vibrant acid backbone that balances the sweetness, offering a finish that is both deep and remarkably light.
Food and wine pairing
This white wine pairs wonderfully with roasted poultry accompanied by rich sauces or mushrooms, as well as with lightly spiced seafood dishes. It also enhances characterful cheeses, particularly blue cheeses or aged goat cheeses, and pairs brilliantly with Asian-influenced fusion cuisine or lightly sweetened fruit desserts.
Service and storage
With remarkable aging potential, this "Clos du Bourg" Demi-Sec 2022 will be able to evolve in the cellar and can be enjoyed until approximately 2037.
Other characteristics
This demi-sec wine has an alcohol content of 13% and a well-balanced sweetness with 18 grams of residual sugar per litre.
The authentic expression of an emblematic Vouvray terroir
The estate
Founded in 1928 by Victor Huet, Domaine Huet has established itself as a true institution in the Loire Valley. Now led by Sarah Hwang and the Hwang family, the estate continues to uphold a philosophy of respect for nature. A pioneer of biodynamic viticulture since 1990, the estate cultivates three prestigious plots. Its artisanal approach and adaptation to each year's conditions allow the true identity of these historic terroirs to be precisely revealed.
The vineyard
Enclosed by a stone wall dating back to the ninth century, Clos du Bourg is a historic six-hectare plot overlooking the church of Vouvray, on the Première Côte. This distinctive terroir is characterised by shallow, very stony soils, where clay mingles with flint and chalk, resting directly on a bedrock of Turonian tuffeau limestone. These unique geological conditions promote optimal concentration and a pronounced minerality.
The vintage
2022 was marked by atypical weather, beginning with a mild winter that led to early budbreak. The summer season then experienced periods of intense heat and drought. Thanks to their deep roots drawing from the tuffeau, the old vines withstood water stress remarkably well. The lack of humidity preserved the grapes' health, allowing for a harvest spread over six weeks to pick the berries at ideal ripeness.
Winemaking and aging
For this "Clos du Bourg" Demi-Sec 2022, whole clusters, hand-harvested and sorted, undergo gentle pressing. After a twenty-four-hour cold settling period, fermentation begins spontaneously with indigenous yeasts, half in stainless steel tanks and half in used demi-muids. Malolactic fermentation is blocked to preserve the wine's natural freshness. Aging then continues in these same barrels through the winter months before bottling in spring.
Grape variety
100% Chenin Blanc. A historic and emblematic grape variety of the Loire Valley, it is renowned for its natural ability to age remarkably well over several decades. It offers a fascinating balance between generous aromatic richness and vibrant acidity.
