Description

Characteristics and tasting tips for Terre de Pierre 2024 by Domaine Luneau-Papin

Tasting

Colour
This white wine has a pale yellow hue with luminous highlights and beautiful brilliance and clarity.

Nose
The bouquet opens with citrus aromas, led by lemon, before moving towards delicate floral notes. A mineral, stony and briny dimension elegantly rounds out the aromatic palette.

Palate
The attack is creamy and ample, quickly balanced by a lively, linear acidity. The palate unfolds subtle bitter notes reminiscent of citrus zest, along with a pronounced salinity that carries the wine through to a long, dynamic and particularly mouth-watering finish.

Food and wine pairing

This wine pairs beautifully with seafood such as oysters, scallops, langoustines and seafood platters. It is also an excellent match for grilled fish, sushi and sashimi, as well as Asian- or Nordic-inspired dishes that play on briny and umami notes.

Serving and ageing

With its great ageing potential, the Terre de Pierre 2024 cuvée can be cellared and will develop gracefully until around 2039.

The estate

Located in the Loire region, Domaine Luneau-Papin traces its winegrowing roots back to the 17th and 18th centuries, although the estate was officially established in its current form in 1990. Now run by Marie and Pierre-Marie Luneau, it covers 27 hectares of vineyards farmed organically and biodynamically. Renowned for its pioneering plot-by-plot approach, the domaine strives to reveal the unique identity of its terroirs through wines of great precision that respect biodiversity and the surrounding ecosystem.

The vineyard

From the Muscadet Sèvre et Maine appellation, this cuvée comes from the lieu-dit La Butte de la Roche, in the commune of Le Loroux-Bottereau. This rare and exceptional terroir stands out for its shallow, stony soil of serpentinite, which originates from magmatic rocks of the Earth's mantle. The vines were planted in 1974 at a density of 6,500 vines per hectare and are farmed according to biodynamic principles. Gentle pruning and natural preparations encourage deep rooting and vine vitality.

The vintage

The 2024 vintage was shaped by a rainy autumn in 2023, which replenished water reserves, followed by a pronounced dry spell throughout the growing season. These demanding weather conditions required intensive work in the vineyard to maintain the vines' balance in the face of water stress. Although yields were halved, the harvested grapes reached optimal levels of concentration and ripeness.

Vinification and ageing

The grapes are harvested by hand, with rigorous sorting directly in the vineyard. The whole bunches are then gently pressed. Alcoholic fermentation of Terre de Pierre 2024 starts spontaneously with indigenous yeasts alone. The wine is then aged for an extended period of around fourteen months on fine lees, without any racking. Ageing takes place in underground concrete tanks lined with glass tiles, ensuring slow, harmonious development until bottling, scheduled for November 2025.
