Description

Characteristics and tasting notes for Syrah d'Ogier 2022 Domaine Stéphane Ogier

Tasting

Colour
The glass reveals a deep ruby red hue, tinged with violet nuances and featuring an opaque core that reflects a beautiful extraction.

Nose
The aromatic bouquet opens with notes of black fruits such as blackberry and blueberry, enhanced by spicy and peppery touches. On aeration, subtle floral nuances of violet, herbs, minerals and chocolate delicately emerge.

Palate
Delicately juicy and medium-bodied, the palate offers a round, well-balanced structure. The mid-palate charms with the sweetness of its fruit while retaining great freshness. The tannins, firm yet perfectly integrated, lend a silky texture that stretches into a long, fresh, peppery and mineral finish.

Food and wine pairing

The estate suggests pairing this wine with turkey skewers marinated in green curry, served with grilled peppers and courgettes. More broadly, this cuvée pairs wonderfully with roasted or grilled meats (veal, pork, beef, lamb), umami-rich dishes based on mushrooms or aubergines, spicy sausages, as well as Asian cuisine or meaty fish such as tuna.

Service and storage

For optimal enjoyment, it is recommended to open the Syrah d'Ogier 2022 in advance to allow it to breathe, and to serve it at a temperature of around 16°C. This wine can be enjoyed now, with a peak expected between 2025 and 2029, and can be cellared until around 2031. It should be stored between 12 and 14°C, away from light and vibrations, with a humidity level between 50 and 80%.

Other characteristics

This dry red wine shows no perceptible residual sugar. Its alcohol content is 14%.

The elegance and precision of an IGP Collines Rhodaniennes wine from Domaine Stéphane Ogier

The estate

Located in Ampuis, at the heart of the Rhône Valley, Domaine Stéphane Ogier is a key reference in the region. Although the family has been cultivating vines here for seven generations, the estate's modern history truly began in 1983 when Michel Ogier decided to start bottling his wines at the property. Since 1997, his son Stéphane Ogier has been the current owner and director of this family estate. Drawing on his training in Burgundy, he has managed to elevate the vineyard, which has grown from 3.5 to 27 hectares, to new heights through a meticulous plot-by-plot approach.

The vineyard

Classified as IGP Collines Rhodaniennes, the vineyard dedicated to this cuvée covers approximately six hectares in the Tupin-Semons sector, on the edge of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. The vines, aged between twenty and thirty years, thrive on predominantly granitic soils. The estate favours sustainable farming practices, including soil cultivation, sometimes carried out with horses, to preserve soil health and biodiversity.

The vintage

Following a difficult previous year, 2022 proved to be particularly favourable. Spared from frost, the growing cycle benefited from a warm, dry season, offering ideal conditions for the grapes to reach optimal physiological ripeness.

Winemaking and aging

The estate's philosophy is based on rigorous plot-by-plot winemaking. For the Syrah d'Ogier 2022, the grapes are destemmed to an average of 80%. A cold pre-fermentation maceration takes place in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, followed by fermentation triggered by indigenous yeasts. The wine is then aged in neutral oak barrels or used barrels, with no recourse to new oak whatsoever.

Grape variety

Syrah (100%).
