Description

Tasting notes and recommendations for Château Romassan 2020

Tasting

Appearance
This wine reveals a beautiful ruby garnet hue.

Nose
Elegant and refined, the aromatic bouquet opens with scents of black fruit and mint. It then develops delicate woody and vanilla notes, complemented by nuances of blueberry and Morello cherry.

Palate
The palate offers a fresh, flavorful, and particularly silky texture. The black fruit aromas are concentrated, supported by perfectly integrated tannins. The finish lingers with persistent fruit, a slightly powdery texture, and subtle hints of licorice.

Food and wine pairings
This Château Romassan pairs beautifully with Mediterranean and Provençal cuisine. Its structure allows it to accompany lightly spiced dishes as well as richer preparations.

Serving and cellaring
To fully appreciate this 2020 vintage, serving at room temperature is perfectly suitable, although it can also be enjoyed slightly chilled during summer meals.

An elegant and harmonious Bandol wine

The estate
Founded in 1912 by Marcel Ott, the Domaines Ott* are an essential reference in southeastern France. The vineyard extends over approximately 300 hectares spread across three distinct estates in Provence. Since 2018, the Louis Roederer group has been the majority shareholder, while the founding family retains a stake. Today, Jean-François Ott co-manages the estate, continuing the family legacy of producing exceptional wines.

The vineyard
The terroir dedicated to this cuvée covers 90 hectares across eight communes within the Bandol appellation. The vines thrive on arid soils composed of marl and limestone, an ideal environment for the region’s flagship grape variety. The topography offers great diversity: plots located in the valley produce fresh and juicy wines, while vines planted at higher altitudes on terraces bring greater structure and body.

The vintage
The year began with a mild autumn and winter. The growing cycle was then affected by a frost episode on April 8, impacting certain plots, followed by a rainy spring that delayed flowering. The summer season proved particularly hot, marked by heatwaves. Harvesting finally began on August 19 with the first Grenache grapes.

Winemaking and aging
The grapes are harvested by hand, followed by rigorous berry selection. For this Château Romassan 2020, the process involves extremely gentle pressing without maceration, followed by fermentation in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks. Aging lasts four to six months, with no malolactic fermentation in order to preserve the full freshness of the wines.

Grape varieties
Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Syrah.
