The indulgence and balance of a red wine from the Rhône Valley
The estate
Domaine E. Guigal was founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in Ampuis. His son, Marcel, succeeded him in 1961. Today, the third generation perpetuates the heritage and values of this iconic family-owned Rhône Valley house. Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage: E. Guigal cultivates a mosaic of vineyards spread across numerous appellations, composing a range of Rhône Valley wines of impeccable quality.
Over the vintages, Maison E. Guigal has grown significantly, notably becoming the owner in 1995 of the famous Château d’Ampuis, as well as several wine estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine, and Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
Vineyard
This Gigondas wine comes from vines around 40 years old, planted on soils of ancient alluvium and red clay, sometimes stony on the hillsides.
Winemaking and aging
After harvest, the grapes undergo a long maceration. Aging lasts 2 years in oak foudres, 50% of which are new.
Grape varieties
Grenache (70%), Syrah (20%), and Mourvèdre (10%).
