The estate
Founded in 1946 by Etienne Guigal in the commune of Ampuis, the Domaine E. Guigal was taken over by his son Marcel in 1961. Today, the third generation preserves the tradition and principles of this prestigious Rhône family Maison.
Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Hermitage, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Saint-Joseph, Crozes-Hermitage: the E. Guigal estate cultivates a diverse set of vineyards across multiple appellations, forming a collection of Rhône wines of impeccable excellence.
Over the years, Maison E. Guigal has seen remarkable growth, notably acquiring the prestigious Château d'Ampuis in 1995, as well as several wine estates (Jean-Louis Grippat, Domaine de Vallouit, Domaine de Bonserine, and Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape).
The vineyard
A benchmark of excellence among Hermitage wines, this cuvée comes from the lieux-dits Beaumes, Méal, Bessards, and Hermite. Averaging 30 years of age, the vines thrive on clay-limestone silt and sandy-gravelly soils.
Winemaking and aging
Carefully managed alcoholic fermentations with controlled temperatures. After a 5-week maceration, this Rhône wine matures for about 36 months in oak barrels, half of which are new.
Grape variety
Syrah (100%).
